A Locals Guide: Dining in Jeddah

If you're like us, when visiting a city, food is always high on our priority list.

And with so much to do in the city, it's only natural to work up an appetite and stop for a bite (or two).

But fear not, because Jeddah is known to have some of the best food, and more than a few homegrown names that will have your mouth watering. Here are some of my favourites.

Top Tip: Go hungry!

BURNT by Buns

After a long day, sometimes all you need is a good, juicy burger. And, BURNT by Buns most definitely hits the spot. With all that sauce (and then some), this burger spot offers just about everything you could think of when it comes to burgers and beyond. A favourite of mine is the avo toast, but it is impossible to deny that a bite of the Korean rib slider or the classic burger will leave just about everyone wanting more. And the fries, oh my, the fries.

Daily Edition Café

Everyone loves a good breakfast, after all, it is the most important meal of the day. And, breakfast foods can be eaten at any time of the day, and at Daily Edition Café - breakfast is available until 4pm. There are so many delicious dishes to choose from; from the traditional scrambled eggs on sourdough, to colourful and fresh acai bowls and breakfast baos. However, I recommend trying the spicy chicken waffle or the eggs Benedict Aussie style, they always hit the spot - no matter what time of the day.

Marmalade

Be it Jeddah, Riyadh or Dammam, we Saudis love our brunches. A good hearty meal at noon is the perfect way to feed the hunger and feed the soul with friends and family. Marmalade stacks its pancakes high, and douses them in sugary, syrupy goodness. Of course, you can order savoury delights such as shakshuka topped with feta, a brioche grilled cheese sandwich and a smoked turkey croque monsieur. Or why not order some traditional British scones with jam and cream for the perfect sweet snack with a coffee.

Novikov

A trip to Jeddah isn't complete without feasting on fresh seafood. Pan Asian and Italian fusion eatery, Novikov, first launched in London's Mayfair borough in 2011 and has since opened its doors in Jeddah. The hustle and bustle of the chefs working in the open kitchen flows into the dining room, creating a buzzing atmosphere and exciting dining experience. With such a vast array of cuisines covered, there is undoubtedly something for everyone at Novikov.

Somosays Pizza

Pizza. Need we say more? In my books, I take pizza as seriously as Joey from Friends. So believe me when I say that Somosays Pizza has got it down to a tee, or rather, more accurately, a triangle. Serving up classics like the ever-cheesy margherita and pepperoni, there are also some more adventurous and interesting options like chicken ranch and a cheese pizza with a green pesto base. With a selection of sides such as curly fries, waffle fries and popcorn chicken, no one will go hungry.

ROKA

ROKA is a relatively new addition to the Jeddah dining scene, and it has certainly made an impact. The Japanese-inspired menu consists of a wide variety of Asian dishes including freshly made hand-rolls, sashimi, tempura and of course robata grilled meats. Discover an array of delicious Asian dishes, the sushi is top notch and of course, the robata (I like the chicken, so juicy) should be tried as it is ROKA's speciality. You'll find good vibes and great food here.

Sky Lounge at the Rosewood Hotel

Who doesn't love a view, especially when it accompanies a great meal. In Jeddah, a sea view never disappoints, making the Sky Lounge at the Rosewood Hotel the ideal location. Grab a fresh juice or a coffee, and enjoy alongside some tasty dishes like Thai lemongrass chicken skewers, a brisket panini or the torched salmon Ceasar salad. The food is almost a bonus, as you will be mesmerised by the calming sounds of waves - even from this height.
