This winter, the Culinary Arts Commission of the Saudi Ministry of Culture presents Shetana, a festival that marries the flavors of Saudi Arabia with the spirit of the desert. Hosted in Diriyah until January 7, Shetana is not just a food festival—it's a cultural experience that showcases the best of Saudi winter cuisine against a backdrop of live music and traditional hospitality.
A warm desert welcome
Upon arrival at the Shetana Festival, guests are welcomed into the Hospitality Tent, where the evening begins with the traditional serving of Saudi coffee and tea. This ritual, steeped in hospitality, sets a welcoming tone as guests are introduced to the event by knowledgeable guides who share the storied history behind the culinary traditions they are about to enjoy.
The heart of Shetana is its live cooking experience. Here, skilled Saudi chefs demonstrate their craft, preparing signature winter dishes using fresh, local ingredients and time-honored cooking techniques. This live demonstration not only allows guests to witness the culinary process but also offers them a chance to interact with the chefs and learn about the artistry behind each dish.
After the cooking demonstration, guests move to the Snack and Dining Area, where a carefully curated set menu of winter dishes awaits. Dining by a cozy bonfire, attendees can enjoy a range of dishes that highlight the depth and richness of Saudi cuisine. The experience is enhanced by informative cards and QR codes at each table, offering diners insights into the dishes’ ingredients and preparation methods.
The festival also includes a Shopping Area, where local artisans display their crafts. This market offers a selection of unique products, providing a perfect opportunity for guests to purchase authentic Saudi crafts and take a piece of the culture home.
Shetana features a lineup of renowned Saudi chefs, including Chef Tawfiq Qadri, Chef Nabil Al-Habl, and Chef Faisal Al-Rabea. Each chef brings their unique expertise and flair, ensuring that every dish served is a reflection of Saudi Arabia’s rich culinary heritage.
