Restaurant Review: Zenon, Dubai

The 2024 arrival of futuristic Mediterranean concept Zenon to the Kempinski Central Avenue Hotel (previously known as Address Dubai Mall) marked an ambitious addition to Downtown’s high-octane dining circuit.

Created as an immersive bridge between classical mythology and dynamic artificial intelligence, the concept translates digital innovation to the desert, offering an elevated journey through Mediterranean-Asian culinary arts that feels equal parts theatre and fine dining. Steps away from the buzzing boulevard, Zenon offers guests a one-of-a-kind sanctuary where Mediterranean classics are reimagined with cosmopolitan Asian flair.

The Atmosphere & Interior Design

Stepping into Zenon feels less like entering a restaurant and more like being transported into a living, breathing digital canvas.

Brought to life, literally and figuratively in partnership with Ouchhh Studios Zenon immediately announces itself as a living digital theatre. The dramatic, wall-to-wall AI-generated digital screens in the main dining room coupled with the standout kinetic installations, against the sleek dark finishes, the intricate lighting elements on the ceiling, and the plush, deep-toned velvet chairs, that all come together and truly bring you to another realm. Powered by an algorithm driven by live, real-time Dubai data feeds, the ever-shifting visual displays transform municipal metrics and environmental inputs into a fluid tapestry of colour, light, and movement. Every meal is experienced in a hypnotic, continuously evolving atmosphere, elevating a meal into a visual spectacle.

Beyond the dramatic digital visuals, the design balances architectural grandeur and incredibly tall ceilings with playful eccentricities, interweaving classical Greek sculptures with vintage automotive accents. Dimly lit, the atmosphere strikes a delicate balance between cinematic drama and futuristic allure, seamlessly blending classical mythology with Dubai’s modern skyline.

The Menu & Food

Whether you're looking for a mid-week after work meal, or a lingering, long dinner with your friends, the kitchen at Zenon, Dubai delivers. With an ambitious menu spanning the Mediterranean and East Asia, the offering leans heavily into refined sharing plates, where a standout raw bar selection takes centre stage — delicate yellowtail carpaccio and jewel-toned tuna tartare arrive dressed to perfection, while starters like crispy calamari and wagyu beef carpaccio crowned with truffle essence awaken the palate.

The menu has been designed and curated by resident Executive Chef Lorenzo Buccarini, Head Chef Thomas Papas, and Head Chef Tatsuya Ueda. With plates large enough for sharing, we tried the seabass ceviche which is prepared with aji amarillo, avocado, and jalapeño and the chargrilled wagyu skewers, which are finished over open flames on the robata grill, giving it a smoky finish and umami taste.
