Saudi Arabia's Kyan Cafe opens a branch in NYC

Hailing from Al Qassim, Kyan Café has officially landed in New York City, marking the first Saudi Arabian branded coffee chain to enter the US market.

The thriving homegrown chain was founded in 2009, and has already established a strong presence across Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle Eastern region, with over 340 stores now operating across seven countries. And now, Kyan is bringing a taste of Saudi coffee culture to the 'city that never sleeps' with its new location in New York's Bronx borough.

Kyan Café's first US store opened its doors at the end of 2024 in the Morris Park neighbourhood, a vibrant area in the Bronx known as "Little Yemen" for its concentration of Yemeni-owned businesses. This strategic location offers Kyan the opportunity to tap into a diverse community with a strong appreciation for coffee and Middle Eastern traditions.

The menu reflects this blend of cultures, introducing coffee lovers to traditional and Middle Eastern inspired flavours and drinks. Visitors can nab classic American-style beverages such as americanos and lattes alongside traditionally prepared Saudi and Turkish coffee drinks for example. Enticing new patrons, Kyan Café has been clever with competitive pricing, starting at US$2.99 for both Americanos and traditional coffees, and US$4.99 for lattes.

Not the first Saudi Arabian cafe brand to go international, Kyan Café's US breakthrough was preceded by Half Million's inaugural foray into the British capital city, just over two years ago in December 2022. With a prominent positing on London's iconic Oxford Street, Half Million has not only attracted the attention of locals, but has become a hive of activity for Saudi Arabian and Middle Eastern expats living, working and studying in the city by providing a taste of home and familiar space.

Whether Kyan's expansion signals the start of a Saudi coffee invasion of the US remains to be seen. But one thing is certain: New Yorkers now have the opportunity to experience the unique flavours and hospitality of Saudi coffee culture.
