The Red Sea region is set to get its first official marathon race in January, 2025.
The newest edition to the Saudi Arabian Athletic Federation's calendar of events, the Red Sea Marathon was unveiled this week.
With its stunning coastline, ideal running conditions, and the vibrant atmosphere of Jeddah, the Red Sea Marathon is expected to become a must-do event for fitness fanatics, elite athletes and recreational runners.

When
Scheduled to take place on Saturday January 18, this marathon is expected to draw in regional and international racers, and the event promises to be a highlight of the Kingdom's growing sports scene.
January is an ideal time of the year for the race as the cooler temperatures, reduced humidity levels and the sea breeze will allow for runners of all experience levels to participate without battling the extreme heat of the summer.
Location
The race will be held at the stunning ROSHN Waterfront, providing participants with breathtaking views of the Red Sea as they compete. The event aims to position Jeddah as a major regional sports hub and attract both elite athletes and recreational runners from around the world.
Race Details
Despite operating under the headline name of Red Sea Marathon, the running event will feature four different race categories, catering to different fitness levels – a full marathon (42.2k), a half marathon (21.1km), a 10km race, and a 4km fun run. More than 10,000 athletes are expected to sign up and take part.
The Red Sea Marathon aims to be an inclusive and welcoming sporting event that will welcome to runners of various ages and abilities. The organisers also plan to host a range of accompanying activities, including kids' runs and family walks, creating a festive atmosphere for the entire community.
