Diriyah has been named one of the Global Eco-Friendly Destinations for 2025 by UK-based travel platform Wanderlust, which spotlights global leaders in sustainable tourism each year.
The recognition comes thanks to a joint nomination by the Saudi Tourism Authority and the Diriyah Gate Development Authority (DGDA), showcasing Diriyah’s commitment to cultural preservation, environmental stewardship, and sustainable visitor experiences.
Fahd Hamidaddin, CEO of the Saudi Tourism Authority, called the recognition “a testament to our strategy of empowering local partners and showcasing national destinations in international markets.” The nod also reinforces Saudi Arabia’s broader tourism ambitions under Vision 2030, positioning the Kingdom as one of the world’s fastest-growing travel hubs.

Known as the birthplace of the Saudi state, Diriyah is undergoing a major transformation — not just as a heritage site, but as a next-gen tourism destination that puts eco-conscious development at the heart of the experience. From preserving mud-brick architecture to introducing low-impact infrastructure and cultural programming, the DGDA is blending history with innovation.
“This international recognition highlights Diriyah’s role as the cradle of the Saudi state and our dedication to preserving its heritage while applying the highest environmental and cultural sustainability standards,” said DGDA CEO Jerry Inzerillo.
Saudi Arabia welcomed approximately 116 million visitors in 2024, and the Kingdom is on track to hit 150 million by 2030. Alongside destination development, much of that growth is being fuelled by seasonal events, immersive experiences, and a growing number of international partnerships.
