Selected as one of just twenty-eight local creatives, the work of LIST Photographer, Osama Jaberti was chosen to be displayed at Riyadh's prestigious Misk Art Institute

Taking place from July 28 through to August 28, Osama's incredible images will be showcased as part of the second edition of the annual Prince Faisal bin Fahd Arts Hall Exhibition. Under the title Personal Narratives within Saudi Landscapes, the exhibition explores "the complex, evolving visual landscape of the Kingdom", and through various forms of media.

Behind the Images

With diverse perspectives and unique experiences of Saudi Arabia, the exhibition showcases the work of these creatives' attempts to unmask the relationship between the individual and the environment, and the impact this relationship has upon their lives and personal identity.

"My work discussed the relationship between the fisherman, Abdo, and nature, which is a topic very aligned with the theme of the exhibition. So, I had truly hoped that it would be chosen among the works to be displayed," shared Osama. Of course when he learnt that his work had been accepted, Osama was extremely happy, but being a true creative at heart, he was eager to see the other pieces on display, and to hear the visitors' opinions on their personal relationships with nature in the modern age.

On his trip to shoot LIST’s cover photo, capturing the landscapes, he noticed Abdo, a local fisherman, perched at the edge of the sea. "I approached him, and a simple conversation started, which became the reason for this artwork."

The pieces exhibited by Osama featured images taken for LIST's very first magazine edition in summer 2023. Depicting the daily life of a local, seasoned fisherman living and working in the Farasan Islands, Osama's images showcase his expertise for storytelling through still imagery.

Capturing Abdo's innate love of his local landscape, his appreciation of the sea, and the intertwined tie between the two, the seemingly effortless photos of the local Farasani fisherman offer us a glimpse into daily life, and the environmental and untouched beauty of the islands, alongside the symbiotic relationship between Abdo and the sea.

During the shoot, Abdo and Osama instantly connected as the introduced himself and was willing to answer any questions Osama had. "It was intriguing to see the deep connection between Abdo and the island, which has become an integral part of his life and self-identity."

Through natural lighting and balancing colour, Osama's impactful images emphasise the profound connection between people and their environment, and call for us to reconsider our interaction with nature and appreciate its vital role in shaping human identity.
