Across Saudi Arabia, a new creative energy is taking shape. An expanding calendar of film productions, festivals, and cultural events of global calibre is emerging, while remaining deeply rooted in the Kingdom’s identity.
From the Red Sea International Film Festival and the Saudi Film Festival to the Islamic Arts Biennale, the Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennale, and TeamLab Borderless, the Kingdom’s cultural landscape is experiencing nothing short of a renaissance. But this is more than a moment.
It is a movement. And movements demand more than spectacle. They require substance – artists, filmmakers, designers, and thinkers who are equipped not only to join the global cultural conversation, but to shape it. Enter Riyadh Arts University.
Established by Royal Decree
On 14 March 2026, a royal decree formalised what the Kingdom's creative class had been awaiting: Riyadh Arts University. The city's newest creative destination will be located in the capital’s Arqa district, the institution is designed as a comprehensive ecosystem for artistic development. Its offerings span the full academic spectrum: short courses and diplomas for emerging practitioners, bachelor's and higher diplomas for depth, and master's and doctoral programmes for those who will push the field beyond.
Global partnerships will have local impact
Slated to open in September 2026, Riyadh Arts University has been positioned as an international arts hub with offering students an extensive network of creative opportunities, and excellence. As part of its launch phase, the university has already secured six partnerships with leading global institutions, with more on the way. In total, 13 colleges are expected to join the network.
Far from ceremonial alliances, these are strategic relationships designed to shape academic programmes, strengthen research collaboration and professional development, and open new pathways for cultural education and international exchange. The goal is clear: to attract a diversity of world-class expertise while strengthening the presence of Saudi talent in both local and global labour markets.
Riyadh Arts University’s founding partnerships span some of the world’s most respected institutions across music, film, theatre, design, and cultural management. It has been confirmed that the Kingdom's newest creative hub and centre of learning has partnered with:
