Saudi Arabia is gearing up for a motorsport first. The FIA Extreme H World Cup, the planet’s first hydrogen-powered racing series, will make its debut in Qiddiya City this October, bringing futuristic speed to the Tuwaiq Mountains.
The race will unfold against the backdrop of the Tuwaiq Mountains, in a custom-designed off-road location close to Qiddiya’s new Speed Park Track. With its 20-storey “Blade” turn and sweeping elevation changes, the venue is being built as one of the most ambitious motorsport destinations in the world, integrated with major attractions like Six Flags Qiddiya and Aquarabia.
The founder and chairman of Extreme H, Alejandro Agag, sees Qiddiya as the "ideal launchpad" for the event, calling it "more than just a race venue, it is a statement of intent. A visually stunning, technologically ambitious location that sets the tone for a new era of motorsport."
Qiddiya Investment Company Managing Director Abdullah AlDawood said: “Qiddiya City is envisioned not just as a destination for play, but as an example of contemporary, sustainable urban planning and design. Hosting the inaugural FIA Extreme H World Cup underscores our commitment to showcasing sustainable motorsport while positioning Saudi Arabia as a global hub for future-focused experiences.”
From Extreme E to Extreme H
Before the hydrogen-fuelled action begins, Qiddiya will also host the Extreme E Desert X Prix on 4–5 October, the official finale of the electric off-road championship. Just days later, the baton will be passed to Extreme H, marking a leap forward in sustainable racing. Together, these back-to-back events highlight Saudi Arabia’s growing influence in international motorsport and its ability to stage high-profile, globally recognised competitions.
Qiddiya City is positioning itself as a global hub for motorsport and entertainment, with sustainability built in. The city is targeting net zero emissions by 2060, with renewable energy powering infrastructure, EV charging across 80% of parking spaces, and large-scale tree planting as part of the Saudi Green Initiative’s plan to plant 10 billion trees nationwide.
The launch of Extreme H ties into Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, the Kingdom’s sweeping blueprint for economic diversification and global engagement. Motorsports attracts international visitors and inspires new industries around innovation, technology, and entertainment.
