Over the last number of years, Saudi Arabia's film industry has experienced remarkable growth, both domestically and internationally.
With the relatively recent opening of cinemas across the country and the support of initiatives like the Red Sea International Film Festival, Saudi film and film-makers are gaining support and recognition as they produce internationally renowned, high-quality films.
Marking a new chapter in the Kingdom's growth, cinemas were officially reopened in early 2018, and just over six years later tens of cinemas have opened across the nation, with Madinah getting its first cinema in November last year.
And this year, Riyadh will become home to Saudi's very first arthouse cinema.
Faisal Baltyuor, a pioneering producer in the Kingdom's film scene , is the driving force behind this landmark project. Cinehouse, a boutique, 80-seat cinema venue has been slowly unveiled on Instagram since July, and according to a recent interview with Variety Magazine, is slated to welcome film buffs later this month.
This unique cinema opening will mark a significant step forward for Saudi Arabia's burgeoning film culture. Cinehouse will embrace a variety of rotating films from small-budget, independent movies to classic productions, Saudi-centric productions and vintage films, from both at home and abroad.
With just three screens, Cinehouse aims to create a curated and immersive cinematic experience, differentiating itself from the more modern swathe of cinemas across the Kingdom. With its vintage and kitschy decor, the venue will evoke the golden age of cinema, inviting visitors to indulge rather than just enjoy the experience.
With its commitment to showcasing diverse and thought-provoking cinema, Cinehouse is poised to become a leading destination for film lovers in Riyadh and a major contributor to the continuing evolution of Saudi Arabia's film scene.
