The Perfume Edit: Jeddah

Perfume is more than a scent – it’s a time machine, a mood ring, a silent storyteller. As Coco Chanel once said, it’s the “unseen, unforgettable, ultimate accessory,” and at Perfumes Week, it’s an art form, if not a near-obsession.

From February 6 - 14, the inaugural edition of Perfumes Week at the Abadi Al-Johar Venue transforms Saudi’s Red Sea city into a playground for fragrance fanatics. This isn’t just a highly anticipated event – it’s an immersion into the history and art of scent. Over 80 perfume brands are participating in what is set to be an annual destination event, focusing on high perfumery and niche scents.

Perfumes Week 2

Regional and Global Icons Collide at Perfumes Week

Spanning 14,000 sq m, the exhibition brings together regional powerhouses like DARALTEEB Luxury Perfumes – founded in 2001 by Abdulaziz Al Thufairi – and BLUE OUD, brushing shoulders with global icons like Cartier. Paris-based SOUL OF MAKEEN and Saray Perfumes, the latter known for its Musk Saray collection, add to the international mix. Homegrown talent is also in the spotlight, with names like LAVERNE, a renowned brand that has collaborated with Argentinian influencer and Riyadh resident Georgina Rodríguez on a scent called Sense. Another Saudi brand, ATTARAZ, continues to honor Arabian perfumery traditions with creations like Fallen Eagle.

Beyond the treasure trove of perfumes, Perfumes Week offers plenty to immerse in – think live panels with perfumers and industry experts like Hassan A. Al-Sarraf, plus appearances from influencers Fouz Al Fahad, Zainab Al Alwan, and Faisal Alghazzawi.

A true feast for the senses, its impact lingers long after you leave.

A Legacy of Scent

It's certainly appropriate for Perfumes Week to take place in the Kingdom. Saudi boasts one of the richest and most influential perfume industries in the region, thanks to a deep-rooted cultural connection to scent. Oud, amber, musk, and rose have long been integral to Arabian perfumery, with the latter instantly evoking the famed Taif rose. Each spring, over 500 million of these prized damask roses are harvested in Taif, fuelling a thriving industry and captivating renowned perfumers worldwide.

Even the spiritual heart of the Kingdom is touched by this fragrant legacy. Historical and cultural sources note that Taif rose oil – often blended with Zamzam water and other scents such as oud – is traditionally used in the cleansing of the Kaaba in Makkah, as part of a revered ritual.
