In a landmark achievement for Arab media, Al Majalla has garnered 13 international accolades at the 46th annual Society of News Design (SND) “Best of News Design Creative Competition.” Among the honours is a coveted Bronze Medal — awarded to work that exceeds excellence through creativity, technical mastery, and narrative depth.
Selected from nearly 5,000 global entries by a jury of 42 visual journalism experts, Al Majalla stood out for its innovative approach to visual storytelling, earning recognition alongside global heavyweights such as The New York Times, Bloomberg, Reuters, and National Geographic.
The Bronze Medal was awarded for a body of work exploring the complexities of conflict in the Middle East, demonstrating the publication’s ability to merge rigorous journalism with emotionally resonant design. “This achievement reflects our commitment to credible, in-depth journalism, and to presenting it in a way that resonates with global audiences,” said Editor-in-Chief Ibrahim Hamidi. “It’s a milestone in our broader transformation journey, one centred on editorial courage and design-driven storytelling.”
In addition to the Bronze Medal, Al Majalla secured 12 Awards of Excellence across multiple disciplines, including illustration, page layout, animation, and thematic coverage such as elections and drug crises in the Arab world. These awards acknowledge the work that challenges conventions and redefines how stories are told in today’s media landscape.
Creative Director Sara Loane praised the team's bold and collaborative spirit: “We’re reimagining how Arab journalism can look and feel — modern, intentional, and visually impactful.”
This recognition reflects more than just artistic merit; it marks a pivotal moment in Al Majalla’s editorial evolution and reinforces its role within SRMG’s broader strategy for digital innovation. The accolades position Al Majalla as a leader in shaping the future of Arab journalism — one where substance and visual sophistication go hand in hand.
