Hotel Review: The Ritz-Carlton, Bangkok

A refined retreat in Bangkok’s dynamic landscape, The Ritz-Carlton, Bangkok blends urban sophistication with serene hospitality

Hotel Review: The Ritz-Carlton, Bangkok

A 7-hour flight from Riyadh — and entirely worth it.

Placed in the heart of the city, The Ritz-Carlton, Bangkok offers sweeping views of Lumphini Park and the city skyline beyond. It’s the kind of lush greenery that city dwellers dream of waking up to.

From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with genuine warmth and understated elegance. There’s something profoundly moving about Thai hospitality—the traditional greeting, with palms pressed together and a gentle bow, makes you feel welcomed and seen. It’s a quiet and humble gesture, but one that speaks volumes, setting a gracious tone for the rest of your stay.

The Neighbourhood

Step outside and you’ll find yourself in the city’s ambitious new One Bangkok district. With stylish cafes, curated boutiques, and contemporary art installations, the open-air urban oasis feels like a vibrant extension of The Ritz experience.

I spent hours wandering its spacious walkways, pausing often to take in the thoughtfully curated art installations. The way the pieces interact with the surrounding architecture is deliberate and grounding, subtle touches that soften the modernity of the space.

Though I didn’t get to explore Lumphini Park on foot, the view from my suite offered a full stretch of green that felt restorative, especially coming from my city centre apartment in Riyadh, and the green offers a striking visual counterbalance to the city’s high-rise edges.

The Ambiance

Entering the lobby feels like stepping into more than just a hotel. This is a sensory experience where design and luxury intertwine.

A striking sculpture draws you in first and anchors the entire space: Hurricane Silver by British duo Fredrikson Stallard. Its dramatic, crumpled, mirror-like surface almost feels alive, as if catching your thoughts in its folds. Cast in polished aluminium, the piece reflects light and movement like water frozen mid-whirl. I found myself mesmerised by it.

Another stunning piece is RE/LEAF – Gravity of Mind, an ethereal installation of 19 blown-glass flowers suspended mid-air, casting delicate shadows and a dreamy glow across the lobby.

The Room

I stayed in a suite with a large window that perfectly framed Bangkok's sparkling skyline by night and showcased the natural green of the park during the day, in perfect balance. The bedroom was spacious and serene, a true retreat high above the city. Soft lighting, layered textures, and a soothing palette were anchored by the picture-perfect view.

Decadent and buttery-soft linens draped over a plump mattress and downy, cloud like pillows promising absolute comfort. It was the kind of indulgent hotel bed that didn’t just invite sleep — it embraced it, allowing for deep, uninterrupted rest night after night. Every detail contributed to the atmosphere of refinement experienced from the lobby and check-in; freshly arranged flowers infused the space with a delicate fragrance, while fluffy, meticulously folded towels showcased an extra layer of evident care.

The bathroom continued the sense of quiet luxury. Sleek and fully high-tech, it was thoughtfully designed to slow you down. The amenity kit was equally impressive, generous and beautifully arranged with everything from soft face towels to plush slippers that added a final layer of indulgence to the experience.

The suite seamlessly blended both luxury and tranquility to created an environment where relaxation felt effortless, transforming simple moments into sensory experiences.

The Dining

The Ritz-Carlton, Bangkok is home to three exceptional dining experiences, each with its own rhythm and personality.

Duet by David Toutain is a French triumph a collaborative effort between two celebrated chefs who have found a way to masterfully blend artistry with traceable ingredients. Each dish here is plated to perfection, accompanied by the story behind its creation and impeccable service.

But the place that really spoke to me was Lily’s. Intimate and warm, its international menu draws inspiration from lily ponds found in traditional Thai homes. Breakfast was a dream: Fresh juices served in charming glass bottles, their signature Thai tea waffle paired with chilled coconut water, and the best mango I’ve ever tasted. For someone like me who enjoys a little sweetness in the morning, it was an ideal start to the day.

Wellness

The spa was a standout moment of my stay. I opted for a relaxation massage, and, within minutes, the pace of the city melted away. My therapist moved with precision and intuition, using warm jasmine oil that smelled like a soft memory. I hadn’t realised how much I needed the stillness.

The entire wellness floor echoed that same serenity. A fully equipped gym is open 24/7, but I gravitated toward the sun-drenched pool deck with its city views and just the right breeze. It offered a perfect escape, and I especially appreciated the small touches, like cold towels that offered midday relief.

The Staff

If there’s one thing that truly elevates The Ritz-Carlton, Bangkok, it’s the people. Every interaction with the staff, from the front desk to the spa, radiated warmth. It wasn’t just polite; it was heartfelt, consistent and unscripted.

Staff remembered my name and preferences, even the tiniest details I didn’t think they’d notice. That seamless, intuitive care turned an already-exceptional hotel stay into something unforgettable.

Family-Friendliness & Accessibility

The hotel thoughtfully caters to every kind of traveller. Families are made to feel just as welcome as couples or solo guests, with a charming Ritz Kids’ and a relaxed, joyful energy in the family-friendly pool. Accessibility is also a clear priority, with wide walkways, step-free access, and an attention to detail that shows real consideration for guests with mobility needs.

Exploring Beyond

The hotel’s central location makes it effortless to tap into Bangkok’s cultural rhythm. Cafés, restaurants, and art spaces are just steps away, while One Bangkok serves as a hub of design, fashion, and lifestyle. I particularly loved The Wireless House, a small gallery space with a permanent exhibition that’s open to everyone, for free. It felt like a tiny cultural sanctuary, an exploration of stories and history that’s hidden in plain sight.

For something more local, I wandered through nearby markets, picking up classic Thai inhalers (which I now swear by) and letting the city’s energy guide me. It’s in those spontaneous, unplanned moments that Bangkok comes alive.
