Riyadh Air Inaugural Test Flight to LHR

In line with the confirmation that Riyadh Air will be servicing direct flights to London, it will come as no surprise that the British capital city is the first destination for Riyadh Air's pilot flight, set to take place on October 26.

In an exceptional step that embodies the Kingdom's ambition to expand its global position in aviation, travel, and tourism, Riyadh Air is preparing to launch its first flight to London Heathrow Airport on October 26, 2026. It could be considered that this flight to London Heathrow Airport will potentially mark the unofficial launch of the new airline, and in turn marks the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the Saudi aviation industry.

The inaugural flight is not just a pilot flight; it is a global launch linking the capital, Riyadh, to more than 100 destinations around the world by 2030, making the city the heart of air traffic in the region and a hub connecting East and West. The flight will be operated on a Boeing 787-9 aircraft named "Jamila," the first of a fleet that will include Boeing's latest models. The route will operate daily from King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh to London Heathrow Airport, providing a direct and fast connection between the two capitals. Flights to Dubai will also be announced soon.

London is an ideal destination to showcase Riyadh Air's identity to the world, as one of the world's leading economic and tourism capitals. These flights will combine a travel experience that blends modernity with authentic Saudi hospitality, positioning Riyadh among major global carriers, according to the company's CEO, Tony Douglas.

It's worth noting that the trial flight is open only to Riyadh Air employees, Public Investment Fund employees, and their families. This is a test phase to ensure operational efficiency and conduct the necessary tests for the passenger experience on board Riyadh Air. Tickets will be available to the public after the trial period, but the exact date for the start of full operations has not yet been determined.

Riyadh Air: At the Forefront of Elite Aviation

This next step should not come as a surprise considering the significant digital-first steps and incredible collaborations the airline has already unveiled.

In May 2024, Riyadh Air announced a strategic partnership with the Saudi Tourism Authority (STA) aimed at broadening its global footprint and enriching the travel experience for passengers. The collaboration will introduce new routes and destinations while boosting inbound and outbound tourism. Riyadh Air passengers can expect exclusive benefits, including enhanced loyalty rewards and curated packages to and from Saudi Arabia.

And in September 2024, the new national airline announced a partnership with noon Payments to integrate a secure digital payment system on its website. The move will offer passengers more payment options and streamline the booking process. This enhancement reflects Riyadh Air’s continued focus on elevating the customer experience from the very first interaction.

In June of this year, Riyadh Air also announced a collaboration with Blacklane. Together with the chic chauffeur company, the new national carrier is set to enhance the luxury travel journey by seamlessly blending premium chauffeur services with the airline’s signature hospitality. This partnership ensures that passengers enjoy elevated on-the-ground transportation that complements the elegance and efficiency of their experience in the skies.

Riyadh Air to Operate Daily Flights to London

Beginning in October 2025, the Kingdom's new national carrier will connect the capital city of Riyadh to the heart of the London, with a premium and direct Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner service. This link is set to mark the airline's first European destination and a major milestone in its international rollout.

This strategic expansion will place Riyadh Air directly on one of the most lucrative corridors in global air travel.

Joining other airlines such as Virgin Atlantic and British Airways, Riyadh Air is set to feed to increased appetite for direct flights between the two metropolitan capital cities. Since March 2025, Virgin Atlantic operates a daily direct flight between Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport and London's Heathrow Airport, whilst British Airways increased the direct flights connecting the two Kingdoms by 54% to 13 direct flights a week. The growing number of direct flights signals and reflects a surge in travel demand driven by a thriving business sector, growing expatriate community and booming tourism sector.

For luxury travellers, this new route offers more than convenience, it’s an invitation to experience the capital’s transformation firsthand. Whether arriving in London for business, leisure, or a seasonal escape, Riyadh Air’s Heathrow service promises to deliver the elegance, efficiency, and ambition that define the Kingdom’s next chapter in global travel.

London Heathrow, Riyadh Air & Vision 2030

With London Heathrow’s slots notoriously difficult to obtain, the successful integration of the new airline into the market reflects both diplomatic finesse and commercial ambition. The timing of the flights, said to be arriving from Riyadh early into London and departing mid-morning, caters to business travellers and those seeking seamless onward connections across Europe and North America.

Backed by Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and a fleet of next-generation aircraft, the new Saudi carrier is reportedly said to enter one of the most competitive and sought-after routes in global aviation. If confirmed, this would mark Riyadh Air’s first European destination and a major step in its international rollout.

The airline is expected to operate a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on the route, with a dual-class configuration tailored to premium business and leisure travellers. Industry filings suggest the service could begin as early as October 26, 2025, pending final slot approval. By expanding long-haul connectivity and enhancing premium travel experiences, Riyadh Air is not only reshaping the aviation landscape — it’s redefining how the world connects with Saudi Arabia.

According to various sources such as Skift and Aviation Middle East, Riyadh Air will launch a daily flight route between Riyadh and London Heathrow from October 26, 2025. However specific launch dates are yet to be confirmed by Riyadh Air.
