Saudia enhances baggage services with real-time location sharing

Waiting at the carousel for a suitcase that never appears is a universal travel frustration.

To eliminate this anxiety, the Kingdom's national carrier, Saudia, has overhauled its baggage recovery systems with a series of high-tech upgrades launched throughout late 2025 and early 2026. By integrating consumer tracking technology from both Google and Apple, directly into its tech infrastructure, the Saudi Arabian airline has positioned itself as a regional pioneer in seamless, transparent luggage management.

Bridging the gap between consumer tech and airline logistics, the recent integration of Apple’s "Share Item Location" and Google’s "Find Hub" into Saudia’s baggage recovery system marks a significant shift in how the airline handles lost or misplaced luggage. By allowing passengers to share a secure, temporary link from their AirTags or compatible Bluetooth trackers directly with airline staff, Saudia has eliminated much of the guesswork often associated with missing suitcases. This technology enables ground crews to see the precise, real-time location of a bag on a map, drastically reducing search times and increasing the success rate of reunions between travellers and their belongings.

This move is a core component of Saudia's broader digital transformation under the pillars of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. Taking a step into the future of travel, the airline is shifting away from traditional, manual reporting methods and actively moving toward a guest-centric digital ecosystem. Through the updated Saudia mobile app and the enhanced WorldTracer portal, passengers can now report delayed items via QR codes and track the status of their claims in real time. This digitised approach not only streamlines the process but also provides a level of transparency that was previously unavailable in the regional aviation market.

Of course, privacy and security remain central to this high-tech rollout. The shared location links are designed with strict safety valves, ensuring that airline access is strictly temporary. The baggage tracking links will automatically expire after seven days or once the bag is marked as recovered, and passengers retain the right to revoke access at any moment.

By combining consumer-grade tracking technology with industrial-scale logistics, Saudia is setting a new standard for passenger peace of mind in the Middle East.
