Moringa trees are known for their shady protection, beauty and resilience - and the precious, lightly scented oil.

Well-adapted to growing in even the harshest of climates, acres of Arabian Moringa trees are grown by farmers in arguably one of the most arid locations in the Kingdom, AlUla.

Of course, AlUla is famous for being home to several UNESCO recognised sites and numerous luxurious, desert escapes, but the area is also known for being a haven of farming land for Arabian Ban Trees (Moringa Peregrina).

More than 90,000 Moringa trees are now growing in fertile soils of the AlUla region. The Moringa Peregrina trees have thrived in the oasis environment for many years, and usually are grown underneath palm trees for shade.

The Arabian Moringa trees are characterised by thin, wispy branches with rounded green leaves, and topped with pink and white blossoms.

Since ancient times, oil from the Moringa trees have been extracted from the seeds of the blossoms, as the oil is recognised for its therapeutic and restorative properties. Ideal for moisturising skin, and encouraging hair growth, the benefits and qualities of this oil is still being studied today, and the list of positive properties continues to grow.

Used in fine perfumes and high-end cosmetics, Arabian Moringa oil is loved for its subtle floral scent, and although usually purchased in its purest oil form, many people also choose to buy soaps and candles, infused and fragranced with Moringa oil.

The oil was first used in fragrances and cosmetics by the Nabataeans after they settled in Al-Ula. And, the oil has been exported across the world ever since. There is even evidence of this precious oil being used in Greece in 4BC and by the Etruscan civilisation in Italian ointments in 150BC.

Stop by AlUla Oasis to explore the area and see the Moringa Peregrina Trees or book an Oasis Heritage Trail Tour and learn about the Oasis, different plants, and the Moringa Peregrina Trees.
