Founded and developed in 2017, Desert X is a recurring international contemporary art exhibition that places site-specific artworks in arid and desert landscapes around the world, including Coachella Valley in California and AlUla in Saudi Arabia.

The inaugural biennale in Saudi was in 2020, and the exhibit returned post-pandemic in 2022, and the UNESCO recognised desert area will return in 2024 for a third edition.

The exhibits featured in Desert X aim to encourage the creatives' unique artistic interpretations and creations that will juxtapose or interact with the surrounding environment.

Following a successful showcase in California in March, AlUla is ready to welcome visitors from around the world this coming September as Desert X AlUla returns to the region once again.

Welcoming visitors to the historically significant desert region in Saudi Arabia, this event will be curated by Reem Fadda, Raneem Farsi, and Neville Wakefield.

Similar to other years, Desert X AlUla 2024 will display the works of approximately 15 artists through newly commissioned pieces, creating a diverse tapestry of global voices. The artworks will be selected by a special curation team including Artistic Director Neville Wakefield, the art installations are set contemplate the interplay between the natural and artificial realms.

The theme of Desert X AlUla 2024 is yet to be confirmed, but we expect that there will be a number of awe-inspiring creations.
