Inaugural edition of Saudi Fashion Week is on the horizon

As New York Fashion Week draws to a close this week, eyes are shifting towards the Kingdom.

Drawing the eyes of the most elite in the fashion industry from taste makers and creators, to influencers, journalists, and designers, official fashion weeks are where future trends are predicted and showcased.

With official fashion weeks taking place in iconic cities such as London, Paris and Milan for decades, the fashion industry enters a new era with the first official Saudi Fashion Week taking place this year.

The Saudi Fashion Commission revealed its plans for an official fashion week, scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia from October 20 to 23.

The announcement was made in June, at a soiree hosted at Paris's Hôtel d'Évreux.

According to the 'State of Fashion in the Kingdom 2023' report, Saudi Arabia's fashion industry is poised for the most significant expected growth rates among large, high-income markets.

Among the report's notable discoveries is a projection indicating that retail fashion sales in Saudi Arabia are anticipated to experience a robust 48 percent surge, reaching $32 billion between 2021 and 2025. This growth represents an impressive annual increase of 13 percent.

These figures are particularly impressive considering the report also references that pre-2020, this industry was practically non-existent in the region.

The inaugural Saudi Fashion Week is being driven by the relatively newly established Saudi Fashion Commission, and the commission is being driven by CEO, Burak Cakmak.
