In the last number of years various different sporting events and activities have become popular, from competitive strength and endurance competitions such as Hyrox and Crossfit Opens, to fast-paced 5km runs and even marathons, but of late, an adult obstacle course has becoming increasingly popular.

Enter, Tough Mudder.

Described as an endurance event set to challenge mind, body and stamina, Tough Mudder is an outdoor challenge that involves various different types of obstacles. These obstacles were created to challenge the most basic of human fears and insecurities, including heights, water, the cold, and pain.

These military-style obstacles come in many forms - a wall that must be overcome after a rope climb, a tunnel of pulsating live wires that shock as they touch skin, and after that a rather welcoming water trough or mud-bath (albeit not a luxurious one).

But, we did mention that the most intense Tough Mudder is coming to Saudi, so let's get into it.

Participants can choose the length of their Tough Mudder challenge, either a 5km loop or a 10km loop. The 5km course includes 13 challenging obstacles, whilst the 10km route includes 20 different obstacles to push through. Of course, these various obstacles can be avoided if the fear or challenge is overwhelming, but where is the fun in that? In most cases, Tough Mudder events also include a kid's version of the event over a shorter (and more tame) 1.6km course.

And, coming soon to AlUla is the Tough Mudder Infinity Challenge.

During the Infinity Challenge, the most elite and fit competitors will have 8 hours to complete as many loops of the course as they wish, or as many as they can withstand. Once the eight hour time cap has been reached, just one winner will be announced.

With this title and glory comes one the largest financial prizes in obstacle-course racing history!
