Found on the western Red Sea coastline of Saudi Arabia, Jeddah's historic Al-Balad district stands as a captivating testament to Saudi Arabia's rich cultural heritage, and the city's place as an important trading port.

And now, the Al-Balad disctrict is a cultural hub, embracing both traditional forms of art and culture alongside a new wave of large-scale, high octane entertainment.

Recently the area has been the location of numerous musical and cultural events such as the breathtaking Balad Beast production. And, now music lovers can enjoy the weekly rooftop DJ sets from MDL Beast showcasing both local and international musicians at Bait Zainal.

This weekend Jazz in Jeddah is set to become part of this cultural and musical endeavour, as in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Sout Al-Balad, the weekend-long showcase aims to embrace the authentic character of the area whilst seeking to enhance the artistic landscape, and foster connections within the Saudi musical identity.

Jazz in Jeddah will comprise of three evenings of jazz on the rooftop of the Visitors Centre, allowing music lovers to sit beneath the stars as they listen to the sultry sounds of numerous talented artists; including Jeddah native Loulwa, London based jazz singer The Swing of Sounds and Emirati soul singer, Arqam AlAbri.

A recognised UNESCO Heritage area, the Al-Balad district or Historic Jeddah is characterised by grand tower houses adorned with decorative wooden Roshans (protruding wooden panels or frames that are used to cover the windows of the house, usually with a lattice or shutter-style design), which were originally constructed in the late 1800s by the city's affluent merchant class, and have been well-maintained since.

With its bustling souks, ancient mosques, and rich culture that is still evident today, Al-Balad offers a visitors a fascinating journey into the heart of Jeddah's past, with its unique charm and historical significance whilst embracing modern culture in its own way.
