In an exploration of the intersection between art, society, and the future, cultural centre Fenaa Alawwal in Riyadh's Diplomatic Quarter unveiled its latest exhibition, 'Unfolding the Embassy', under the thematic banner of 'Now in the Future'.

Curated by Sara Almutlaq and featuring scenography by Studio GGSV, the exhibition showcases the visionary works of contemporary Saudi and international artists, delving into the complexities of our present and the potential trajectories of our collective journey forward.

'Unfolding the Embassy' offers a thought-provoking experience, inviting visitors on a captivating journey to the year 2040 aboard a fictional Space-X satellite.

Through various mediums such as installation, video, photography, and print media, the exhibition explores themes including the global economy, the Anthropocene era, and the ever-evolving landscape and impact of artificial intelligence. By exploring the impact of fiction on shaping societal constructs, the exhibition encourages all viewers to reflect on the complex relationship between imagination and reality in shaping our collective future.

Curator Sara Almutlaq emphasizes the exhibition's focus on fictional narratives as a lens through which to examine the fundamental structures of our world, posing the question: "At the depth of Truth, do we find the landscape of the arbitrary?"

Through this lens, artists from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt, Palestine, Bosnia, Zambia, and Belgium offer their unique perspectives on pressing contemporary issues, including climate change, migration, and identity.

The Embassy structure itself becomes a symbolically charged vessel, guiding visitors through an immersive exploration of the ruptures and possibilities that lie ahead. 'Unfolding the Embassy' aims to serve as a platform for fostering dialogue and engagement by challenging perceptions, inspiring critical reflection, and discussing the complexities of our shared reality and future.

The exhibition is open to the public at Fenaa Alawwal in Riyadh's Diplomatic Quarters until September 1st. Don't miss the opportunity to embark on this captivating journey into the future of art and society.
