Combining the creamy richness of ripe avocados with the aromatic freshness of basil, this twist on traditional hummus offers a bright, herbaceous flavour profile that pairs beautifully with crisp vegetables, pita chips, or even as a spread on sandwiches and wraps.

Avocado Basil Hummus

Ingredients:

• 450g of chickpeas (garbanzo beans), drained and rinsed

• 150g of Avocado

• 1 cup fresh basil leaves.

• 1/4 cup of tahini (sesame paste)

• 2 tablespoons of olive oil

• 2 tablespoons lemon juice (freshly squeezed)

• 1 garlic clove

• Salt tastes (start with 1/2 tsp)

• 2–4 tablespoons cold water (to desired consistency)

Method:

1. Blend the base:

In a food processor, combine chickpeas, basil, tahini, lemon juice, garlic, and salt.

2. Add olive oil:

While blending, slowly drizzle in the olive oil.

3. Adjust texture:

Add cold water a tablespoon at a time until the hummus is creamy and smooth, or to your desired texture

4. Taste & adjust:

Add more salt, lemon, or garlic to taste.

5. Serve:

Spoon into a bowl, drizzle with olive oil, and garnish with a few fresh basils leaves or pine nuts.
