The Half Million pink cup frenzy has taken over the Kingdom

We’ve all seen the massive lines that form when a new iPhone drops, but who would have thought a simple pink cup could create the same buzz? Yet, that’s exactly what happened when Half Million launched their new pink cup, sparking a social media frenzy.

Thousands of eager customers were spotted queuing outside Half Million branches, all for a chance to snag this sought-after cup.

So, what’s the story behind this craze?

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Initially, the pink cup was introduced as a free gift for women who underwent regular breast cancer screenings at the Zahra Breast Cancer Association or the Saudi Cancer Association.

And to further support the cause, Half Million released a limited number of the cups for sale at just 24 Saudi Riyals. The response was overwhelming, far surpassing expectations. Demand for the cup quickly spread beyond Saudi Arabia to neighbouring countries like Bahrain and Kuwait. Soon after, a black market emerged, with people reselling the cup online at outrageous prices.

Some social media users claimed the cups sold out in just 20 minutes!

The Queue Phenomenon

Over the last week or so, Saudi social media, particularly TikTok, has erupted with videos of the long lines snaking around Half Million branches. While many were excited, others questioned the lengths people were willing to go to for the pink cup.

One woman humorously commented online, “If your husband or fiancé waits in line for hours to get you the Half Million pink cup, that’s true love!” So, the question remains: would you stand in line to prove your love by getting this elusive pink cup?

Another quipped, “Aren’t there more important things in life than waiting three hours for a pink cup?”

Cup Craze: USA's Stanley Cup Madness

A similar cup craze gripped the U.S. earlier when Target stores released the limited-edition Valentine’s Stanley cup.

Just like in Saudi Arabia, hundreds of people rushed to Target locations, with some even camping out to get their hands on one, causing chaos in stores across the country.
