Next month 3000 elite athletes will compete in Riyadh

Riyadh will host the 6th edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG) this November. 

The Islamic Solidarity Games is monumental multi-sport festival that champions peace, diversity, and humanity. The 2025 edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG) are scheduled to run from November 7 to 21, 2025 in various locations across the Saudi capital. 

The capital city will welcome more than 3,000 top-tier athletes representing the 57 member nations of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Similar to the Olympics, the Islamic Solidarity Games are held every four years, and this major sporting festival acts as an ultimate culmination and display of solidarity through sports, establishing the Games as the premier gathering for athletic excellence across the Islamic world.

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation includes the following nations: Afghanistan, Albania, Azerbaijan, Algeria, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Benin, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Brunei Darussalam, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, the Comoros, Cote d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Egypt, Gabon, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Guyana, Indonesia, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kuwait, Libya, Lebanon, Maldives, Malaysia, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Oman, Palestine, Pakistan, Qatar, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somali, Sudan, Surinam, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Togo, Tunisia, Türkiye, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Uganda, Yemen.

Both men and women from across the MENA region and beyond, will participate and compete in the Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG). Teams and individuals will go head-to-head in a number of competitive sporting events such as fencing, swimming, basketball and athletics sports such as shotput, javelin, hurdles, sprints and high jumps. These teams will also compete in more localised sporting events such as camel racing. 

Where will these events take place?

To accommodate an event of this magnitude, Riyadh is deploying its world-class sporting infrastructure across a compact and efficient four-cluster venue plan. Competitions will unfold across five state-of-the-art locations, ensuring seamless operations and minimal travel for athletes and fans alike:

  • Prince Faisal bin Fahad Sports City and its Olympic Complex
  • The newly developed Sports Boulevard
  • Boulevard City entertainment destination
  • AlJanadriah Racecourse

These venues will stage a dynamic and diverse sports programme encompassing 23 disciplines, including 19 Olympic and regional events, along with three para-sports. The events program features a blend of global favourites such as athletics, swimming, basketball, and boxing, alongside combat sports such as Judo, Karate, and Muaythai. Unique to the region, traditional events like camel racing and equestrian will also proudly feature, reflecting the host nation’s rich cultural heritage.

Beyond the medals, the event serves as a crucial platform for interaction, knowledge exchange, and community. By bringing together thousands of athletes and supporters from nations spanning four continents, the Riyadh 2025 event seeks to cultivate a powerful spirit of solidarity and inspire millions of young people across the Islamic world and beyond.
