Dubai’s playground for the rich doesn’t stop at luxury yachts and gold bar vending machines – it’s a full-throttle adrenaline circus. Whether you get your kicks with altitude, speed, or insane new water experiences – you’ll find heart-pumping fixes of all kinds here for big kids who love expensive toys.
Skydive over palm-shaped islands, get fired above the Gulf Sea like Iron Man, descend 60-metres into an underwater Atlantis or jump over dunes in a 4x4, you’re never too far away from a hair-raising experience – as they say, ‘the closer you are to death, the more alive you feel’. These are the ultimate Dubai adventure experiences.
1. Skydive over Palm Jumeirah
Leap from a plane at 13,000 ft above the iconic Palm at 120 mph during a heart-thumping free fall with Skydive Dubai, before gliding peacefully under canopy in serene silence. Make sure you keep your eyes open to take in the jaw-dropping 360° views from above the city.
2. Go deep into a sunken city at NAS Sports Complex
Squeeze into a wetsuit and descend 60 metres into a spooky and surreal photogenic labyrinth at Deep Dive Dubai with rooms, cars and graffiti-themed walls. This ‘sunken city’ is the world’s deepest indoor pool filled with 14 million litres of freshwater.
3. Race full throttle in a Formula One car at Dubai Autodrome
Strap in, slam down the visor, and grip the wheel of a single seat F1 car that goes 100 km/h in under three seconds at Dubai Autodrome. Here, you're not just pretending to be a racer; you’re twisting and turning during a white-knuckle dance with G-forces on the pro-grade circuit where there’s no speed limit. Expect the engine to be roaring, the rubber burning and your heart pounding.
4. Strap on a jetpack at JBR Beach
Part superhero fantasy, part wipe-out comedy, flyboarding is riding with a jetpack as it shoots out water, thrusting you up to 10 metres into the sky. SeaRide Dubai will run you through this wickedly bizarre adrenaline-fuelled activity, then let you loose in the water. Ensure your friends are ready with the camera – watching back the videos of the spinning, flying and belly flopping is even funnier than the experience in real time.
5. Dune bash in the Arabian Desert
Conquer golden dunes in a 4x4 on a desert safari with Dubai Travel & Tourism. Depending on the driver you could be hurtling off sand crests at speed, or driving at 45 degree angles over soaring dunes as you attempt sand-sprayed selfies. Ask for an optional sandboarding experience to top off the thrills with a snowboarding-come-surfing experience on the sandy slopes.
6. Zoom over Dubai Marina
Shoot along a kilometre-long urban zipline at 80 kph, city lights and yachts whizzing by below. XLine Zipline's two parallel lines let you race a buddy over the fancy yachts of Dubai Marina on the world’s longest urban zipline. Riders finish on a terrace with Marina views.
7. Ride slopes in a giant fridge at Mall of the Emirates
It may be sweltering outside, but you can always find real snow at Ski Dubai. Its slopes include a 400m-long black‑diamond run plus toboggan hills. After exhilarating rides, rest weary legs by grabbing a hot chocolate and meeting the penguins (yes, real penguins) – a colony of cute Gentoos lives here year-round.
8. Walk the vertigo-inducing edge at Sky Views Observatory
Harness up and step onto an open-air ledge 219 metres above ground level at the Sky‑Edge Walk, atop the Address Sky View’s 50-story building. If you have the nerves for it, you can lean out at an angle and let go of your rope (trusting the harness to keep you from plummeting to your doom). It makes for an unsettling but thrilling picture with Dubai’s iconic skyline (Burj Khalifa included) in the background.
9. Brave the world’s fastest indoor roller coaster at Dubai Hills Mall
Riding the Storm Coaster at Dubai Hills Mall is like strapping yourself to a rocket in a shopping mall – this beast of a ride launches 50 meters before hurling along 670 meters of twisted steel track at 77 km/h. There's a wild loop that flips the cart, leaving your stomach in the air for a thrilling, shaking, hilarious experience a stone’s throw from H&M.
10. Speed above the water over the Arabian Gulf
Another invention from the Back to the Future movies that has become reality – these days, hoverboards do work on water. Now you can ride around Dubai on a surfboard with a hover mode. Sign up with OkayDive to ride a hydrofoil, which lifts the rider out of the water as a battery-powered motor propels them along at speeds of up to 40 km/h. Expect epic wipeouts on your first few attempts and then feel the surreal rush of floating at sea, without being in it.
11. Dive with real sharks in a fish tank at Dubai Mall
Jump in the shark tank at Dubai Aquarium (inside a shopping mall) to come face to face with multiple menacing looking 10ft sand tiger sharks, with mouths full of prominent teeth (don’t worry, they’re not actually aggressive). This Olympic-sized pool with sharks tallies up as the world’s largest suspended tank, holding 10 million litres of seawater, held in by a 750 mm thick acrylic viewing panel. While trying not to get eaten you can spy 70 other marine life species swimming by, including eagle rays and leopard rays.
