At the end of this month, the Cultural Palace in the Diplomatic Quarter will come alive with the vibrant spirit of Japan at a free two-day event.
Taking place on Friday November 22 and Saturday November 23, the 'Japan Festival' has been organised by Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) Riyadh, the Japanese Association in Riyadh, and the Embassy of Japan in Saudi Arabia, in collaboration with the Royal Commission for Riyadh City.
Over the course of two days, visitors will be invited to experience the best of Japan, in the heart of Riyadh.
Discover more about Japan, and immerse yourself in a world of intriguing and unique culture. From a demonstration of Japanese swordsmanship, umbrella juggling and karate exhibits, there are plenty of thrilling and high energy demonstrations and performances set to take place. In addition to these showcases, visitors will also be able to experience the intimate and traditional experience of a Japanese tea ceremony and even an anime song competition.
Visitors will also be able to get involved in some hands on workshops and experiences. There will be an origami demonstration and workshop that the whole family will love, in addition to a mizuhiki workshop (the twisting of a thin, decorative cord for presentation on a card or envelope) and you will also be able to take home a piece of art - your name written or painted in traditional Japanese calligraphy style.

For women, a unique styling experience can be enjoyed - although only a select number of spaces are available daily, to try on and experience dressing in traditional Japanese kimono.
Entry to the Japan Festival at the Cultural Palace in the Diplomatic Quarter will be entirely free for the whole family, but pre-registration is required in order to visit. If you are a resident of the DQ, pre-registration is not required. Register your visit for just one day, or for both days - just make sure you do it before you arrive or you could be denied entry. The festival promises to be a cultural extravaganza.
