The AlUla Languages Institute in association with the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU), has introduced a unique learning opportunity for both locals and residents.
The Reviving Ancient Languages Program is an initiative designed to reconnect those living in the Kingdom with the region’s linguistic heritage. This program aims to raise awareness of AlUla’s historical languages and inscriptions, offering structured learning opportunities for those interested in engaging with ancient scripts.
Preserving AlUla’s Linguistic Legacy
AlUla is UNESCO recognised destination in Saudi and is a region rich in archaeological significance, it has long been home to a diverse array of local languages and ancient inscriptions, such as those at Jabal Ikmah.
This new language program provides those interested with specialised courses in several ancient languages such as Aramaic, Thamudic, Dadanitic, Lihyanite, Musnad-al-Janubi, and Nabataean, as well as a course on the origins of writing. By offering these courses, at a very affordable rate of just SAR220 per course, the RCU hopes to strengthen the connection between AlUla residents and locals, and their cultural heritage, while fostering a deeper appreciation for the linguistic traditions that shaped the region.
The program is designed primarily for AlUla residents, encouraging them to explore the historical diversity of languages that once flourished in the area.
