The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has launched the second "Common Ground" festival, a vibrant celebration of the rich cultures of Saudi Arabia and Iraq. Organized by the Ministry of Culture, this event, housed at Mega Studio in Riyadh’s Boulevard City until December 31, invites visitors to explore the cultural, historical, and artistic bonds between the two nations through a diverse array of activities that cater to all senses.

"Common Ground" is more than just a festival; it's an immersive journey through the shared and individual heritages of Saudi Arabia and Iraq. The event is strategically divided into four main sections, each designed to provide a unique experience that encapsulates the spirit of both countries.

The exhibition and artistic dialogue

The first section, an extensive art exhibition, features over 100 pieces by acclaimed Saudi and Iraqi artists. This showcase not only highlights the deep cultural similarities between the two nations but also emphasizes significant historical milestones through thoroughly researched artworks. Here, visitors can walk the "Dialogue Between Civilizations" pathway, which illustrates the intertwined histories and cultural connections that have long bound Saudi Arabia and Iraq.

Named "Al-Mutanabbi Street," the second section of the festival celebrates the cultural significance of the revered Baghdad poet, Al-Mutanabbi. This area is a reproduction of the iconic street, complete with an Arabic calligraphy mural, poems, and the Shabandar Café atmosphere, echoing Baghdad’s famous literary and cultural hub. The ambiance is further enriched with book-filled shops and seminars exploring topics that resonate deeply with both Saudi and Iraqi traditions, accompanied by musical performances that weave a tapestry of cultural narrative.

In the third section, "Realm of Melody and Authenticity," visitors are treated to classical music concerts by leading Saudi and Iraqi artists. This area not only offers delightful auditory experiences but also honors artists whose work has significantly contributed to the cultural and artistic landscapes of both countries.

The final segment, "Path of Connection," deepens the cultural immersion, showcasing various aspects of Saudi and Iraqi life. A special area designed for children features engaging activities like heritage games, arts and crafts, and interactive storytelling, making it a family-friendly part of the festival. Additionally, the festival's restaurant area offers a culinary journey through Saudi and Iraqi cuisines, with dishes that merge flavors from both lands and a selection of traditional beverages like Saudi coffee and Iraqi tea, celebrating the renowned hospitality inherent to Arab culture.

The "Common Ground" festival stands as a testament to the enduring friendship and shared cultural heritage between Saudi Arabia and Iraq, offering a rich, engaging, and educational experience for all who attend. It promises to be a source of inspiration and cultural enrichment, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the rich heritage that Saudi Arabia and Iraq share.
