Madinah is gearing up for the fourth edition of its annual book fair, which is set to take place from July 29 to August 4.

Taking place at the King Salman International Convention and Exhibition Centre, the cultural event has been organised by the Literature, Publishing, and Translation Commission, and it is anticipated that this year’s edition will be the biggest yet, with over 300 publishers from Saudi Arabia and abroad, showcasing their works in over 200 booths.

Whether you’re a casual reader or a lifelong bookworm, there’s something about a book fair that invites curiosity, and this one is no exception.

A Cultural Event with Real Momentum

Saudi Arabia has recently made significant investments in its creative sectors, and book fairs have played an unexpectedly important role in this transformation. What began as local showcases has now expanded into international platforms, with Almadinah's fair being one of the fastest growing.

There’s also a broader context: the fair is part of the Kingdom’s “Book Fairs” initiative, a national program that supports the publishing industry, intellectual growth, and creative economy, all aligning with the goals of Vision 2030.

Beyond the numbers, the fair does something simple but powerful, it brings people together around stories. It highlights Saudi authors, supports small and large publishers, and makes space for different perspectives to be seen and heard.

This edition will bring new releases, panel talks, author signings, and plenty of opportunity to discover something unexpected, whether it’s a niche translation, a bold novel, or an illustrated children’s series.

There’s also a strong international presence this year, creating a space for cultural exchange and collaboration.

Part of a Literary Movement

Madinah isn’t the only city with a major book event. Over the past few years, the Kingdom’s literary calendar has filled up with a number of events across the country. The Riyadh International Book Fair has grown into one of the region’s largest, drawing more than a million visitors in 2023. Whilst the Jeddah Book Fair combines literature with coastal charm, and the Eastern Province fairs are becoming go-to spots for Arabic publishers and new authors.

But what makes Madinah’s fair different is its atmosphere, as it is a bit more intimate, while at the same time - international. It’s a place where culture and tradition meets the future of publishing. This year’s edition isn’t just about books, it’s about ideas, translation, creativity, and a growing demand for local talents.

If you are in the area it's definitely worth a visit, and if not, keep any eye out for upcoming book fairs in the Kingdom, or add it to next year's calendar.
