How did your passion for photography begin?

When asked about his journey to becoming a professional photographer, Anas shared: “My passion for photography began in 2011, capturing family moments and events with my phone or my father’s film camera. I was drawn to how photographs convey emotions and leave lasting impressions. By 2015, I had acquired my first camera, a Canon 550, and started taking photography more seriously. My first commercial project was for a Saudi ice cream café.”

“Graphic design has greatly influenced my photography. It helps me imagine the mood and impact I want my images to convey. I’ve honed skills to build ideas from scratch, turning them into creative and innovative photographs. My design background allows me to push creative boundaries.”

Anas was deeply influenced by his father, an architect who photographed buildings. Their discussions often revolved around the importance of angles and the interplay of sunlight and shadow. To this day, Anas follows his father’s advice, particularly the principle of choosing the right composition for any shot.

You combine your skills in both graphic design and photography, how does this crossover reflect in your work?

“Of course, every photographer has a signature style. People often compliment my work, telling me my work embodies a sense of effortless sophistication. At first glance, my images may appear simple, but their execution is anything but.”

What do you keep in mind before any shoot?

Speaking to us about preparing for any photoshoot, Anas explains his process. “Before any shoot, I focus on the story I want to tell. A compelling narrative draws people in and encourages them to delve deeper into the image.”

You have completed the photograph book 'Journey', which was published by the Culinary Authority. Can you tell us more about this experience?

Discussing his work on the culinary book Sufrah, he said: “Over six months, I visited 35 homes across Saudi towns and cities, photographing local dishes and table settings. It was an incredible experience.”

Does your camera accompany you everywhere you go?

Although his keen eye for photography and perfect moments never wanes, Anas tell us that he does not travel with his full photography kit at all times: “Not always, but when traveling, I do carry my Fujifilm digital camera as it has built-in, live editing features and technology. Most of my travel shots focus on fashion and street styles, particularly in Sweden and Paris.”

You've collaborated with many local Saudi brands, how do you feel about contributing to the international view of the Kingdom?

When it comes to helping local brands create quality content, Anas explains his pride: “I’ve collaborated with many local brands, and I’m proud of how Saudi labels in fashion, hospitality, and other fields now rival international standards. Showcasing Saudi brands reflects our culture and heritage, and I’m thrilled to contribute to their success.”

And in working with Saudi Arabian brands, and indirectly promoting the Kingdom to the world, Anas acknowledges the need to capture the national pride and rich heritage through his images. “In every Saudi project, I ensure the team is entirely local to authentically reflect Saudi spirit. From location and model selection to costumes, accessories, and iconic Saudi products, every detail is curated to highlight our identity. The ultimate goal is for anyone viewing the image to instantly recognise its Saudi essence.”

What makes for the perfect shot?

“Lighting, composition, and a compelling story are the essential ingredients for a satisfying photograph, even for something as simple as a burger.”

In terms of setting up an image, Anas explains his preference for using zoom or more close up photography. “I prefer perspectives beyond the naked eye, using close-ups and zoom-ins to create images that captivate viewers. These techniques forge an intimate connection between the audience and the image.”
