Doha’s Corniche is the postcard image of the Qatari capital, the azure waters of the Arabian Gulf peppered with wooden dhows and framed by a skyline dominated by the city’s supertall towers, which has been a canvas for starchitects from across the world for almost two decades.
It is home to some of the city’s most iconic sights, including the Museum of Islamic Art, and walking distance from both Old Doha and New, from the winding alleys of Souq Waqif to the modern sustainable design of Mshereib. On warm evenings, the Corniche is where Doha goes to stroll, snack, exercise and people watch. It is an essential stop on any Doha itinerary.
What is Doha Corniche?
The Corniche is a crescent-shaped promenade that runs along Doha Bay and connects the Sheraton Hotel at the north end to the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) Park in the south. It is a popular gathering spot for locals, families, joggers and tourists, and offers unbeatable views of the West Bay skyline and easy access to several of the city’s key attractions.
It is an active spot, and plays host to national day parades, public celebrations, and regular spontaneous picnics. The promenade and the parks it is connected to are dotted with sculptures and green spaces and it is a superlative introduction to both modern and historic Doha.
