Riyadh's cinema scene is about to get a vibrant injection with the return of the pop-up Wadi Cinema this weekend.
From February 5 to 8, Wadi Cinema will transform a space within JAX District into a haven for film lovers, showcasing a curated selection of regional and international films, including a number of short films.
The opening night will pay homage to the legendary David Lynch, with screenings of "The Straight Story" (1999) and "Eraserhead" (1977). Subsequent evenings will feature diverse offerings, including the Egyptian films "Mr. Rambo" (2024) and "Bird" (2024), and the captivating documentaries "All We Imagine As Light" and "To A Land Unknown."
The final night of the pop-up film festival will see Taghreed Abu Al Hassan's "Snow White," in addition to three sittings of different short film screenings.
Beyond the screenings, the pop-up will host a selection of engaging discussions and panels. Filmmaker Khaled Mansour, director of "Mr. Rambo," will share his insights, and a special panel will delve into the cinematic impact of David Lynch.
The first edition of Wadi Cinema, held during the Diriyah Biennale in December 2021 and ran until March 2022. The inaugural event served as a platform for insightful discussions and panel sessions featuring directors, actors, and critics, shedding light on the art of filmmaking in the Arab world and the nuances of film production.
