For the first time ever, the internationally acclaimed musical Wicked will take centre stage at Dubai Opera, captivating audiences from January 28 to February 15, 20262.
Co-presented by Dubai Opera and Broadway Entertainment Group, this marks the Middle East debut of one of the most successful theatrical productions in history, having already mesmerised over 65 million people across 130 cities in 16 countries.
Since the release of the 2024 feature film starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, Wicked has captivated a whole new generation of fans. With its soaring popularity, the upcoming live performances at Dubai Opera are expected to be a complete sell-out.
The Dubai production promises to be more than just a replica of its Broadway and West End counterparts. Featuring reimagined sets and couture-level costumes, the show includes a breathtaking moment where a witch soars above the audience, which will be a jaw-dropping first for any Wicked staging. With over 100 performers, crew, and orchestra members, and more than 350 costumes, the production is poised to deliver a magical and theatrical experience of epic proportions.
At its heart, Wicked tells the story of Elphaba and Glinda, two young women whose unlikely friendship evolves into a powerful rivalry, ultimately shaping their destinies as the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good. The musical explores themes of identity, courage, and the complexity of good versus evil, all underscored by Stephen Schwartz’s unforgettable score, including hits like “Defying Gravity,” “Popular,” and “For Good”.
Stephen Schwartz, the composer and lyricist of Wicked the musical, expressed his excitement about the Dubai premiere, noting that the new production brings “its own vitality and creativity” while continuing to tell a story about “friendship, love, and having the courage to be true to yourself”. Whilst Liz Koops, CEO of Broadway Entertainment Group, called the performance run in Dubai “a history-in-the-making moment,” a showcase which will coincide with the company’s 15th anniversary in Dubai.
Paolo Petrocelli, Head of Dubai Opera, emphasised the significance of hosting Wicked, stating that it reinforces Dubai’s reputation as a hub for cultural excellence and world-class live entertainment. The musical joins a diverse lineup for the 2025/2026 season, which includes world class productions such as Grease (October 24 - November 2, 2025), Swan Lake (September 25 - 28, 2025), and The Nutcracker Ballet (December 18 - 25, 2025). It is expected that many more exciting performances will be announced for 2026 in the coming weeks.
