The Saudi Games is arguably the most prestigious multi-sport event held in Saudi Arabia each year.
Just ahead of Riyadh Season 2024, the Saudi Games opening ceremony will take place on October 3 at Riyadh's Boulevard City.
This will be the third edition of the Saudi Games, and the annual event acts as a celebration of athletic excellence, strategic thinking, showcasing a wide range of sports and disciplines including traditional competitive sports like athletics, badminton, basketball, cycling, golf, jujitsu, padel, rugby, sailing and swimming.
In addition to these more regular competitive sporting events, a number of off-beat and newly recognised sports like robotics, skateboarding, e-gaming, jet-skiing and chess will take place during this year's edition of the Saudi Games.
A number of inclusive competitions will also take place as part of the Saudi Games 2024, such as Boccia and Futsal for the deaf, alongside wheel-chair basketball, para-powerlifting, para-athletics and para-table tennis.
The games also includes several traditional Arabic and Saudi Arabian sports and games, for example competitive camel racing and balut.
Competing for medals and recognition, more than 9000 athletes will come together and participate in 52 different sporting events and competitions, in a number of sporting grounds and arenas across the Kingdom.
The Importance of the Saudi Games
The Saudi Games event is not just about sports; it's also a celebration of Saudi Arabian culture, with traditional music, dance, and food. The games aim to promote a healthy and active lifestyle for all, and with an inclusive selection of sports to participate in, the Saudi Games aim to foster a sense of community among the Saudi people.
The Saudi Games is a testament to Saudi Arabia's commitment to sports development and its growing prominence on the global sporting stage. The Kingdom continues to perform on the international sporting stage, with a number of athletes representing Saudi Arabia in this year's Olympics, Paralympics and Wimbledon events. Abdulrahman Al-Qurashi marked his cards as being one of the Kingdom's most successful athletes as he took home a gold medal (and a personal best time!) at the Paralympic Games in Paris, in the men's 100m T53 wheelchair race.
