The very first Riyadh Season Boxing World Cup confirmed for 2025

In recent years, it has become increasingly evident that Riyadh Season has become a major player in the global entertainment scene, with high-profile music, entertainment and sporting events taking place in the city, but boxing in particular has emerged as a key component to Riyadh Season's international success.

Focussing on further supporting both local and international boxing, it has been confirmed that a brand-new boxing event will take place as an extension of the Riyadh Season brand; the very first Riyadh Season Boxing World Cup is slated to take place at some stage in 2025. 

This exciting new endeavour highlights Riyadh Season's dedication to fostering a thriving sporting landscape within the Kingdom while simultaneously providing a unique platform for aspiring boxers to achieve global recognition.

Riyadh Season Boxing World Cup

The Riyadh Season Boxing World Cup, a brand new and prestigious tournament was unveiled at the recent WBC Hamburg Annual Convention which took place in December. The event aims to identify and cultivate the next generation of boxing champions. An ambitious project, spearheaded by the World Boxing Council in collaboration with Riyadh Season, will provide a global platform for aspiring fighters to showcase their talent.

The inaugural edition of this "Grand Prix" will feature four weight divisions: Featherweight, Super Lightweight, Middleweight, and Heavyweight.

A total of 128 boxers from across the globe will compete in a series of five events, culminating in a thrilling final. The tournament will commence with quarter-final matches consisting of eight-round bouts, culminating in a ten-round championship final.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman underscored the significance of this initiative and exciting project, stating, "My father, Don Jose, envisioned a world cup that gives opportunities to all fighters. We have partnered with the Riyadh Season to make this dream a reality."

Riyadh Season Turki Alalshikh Boxing Man of the Year

His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority (GEA), echoed this sentiment, highlighting the Kingdom's commitment to supporting the growth of sports within Saudi Arabia: “As a boxing fan, we’ve been dedicated to supporting the sport for the past 14 months, The Riyadh Season Boxing World Cup is a continuation of that commitment. This was a great man’s dream, and we’re honoured to help fulfil it.”

In December, His Excellency Turki Alalshikh was announced as Boxing's Man of the Year by the World Boxing Council (WBC). And, Alalshikh said: "We will continue supporting the sport of boxing, striving to elevate it to its golden era by delivering the strongest and most exciting fights to the fans."

Riyadh Season's Investment in International Boxing

The capital city's annual celebration of arts, culture, and entertainment has increasingly integrated high-profile boxing matches into its diverse programming with a series of prominent bouts, such as the highly anticipated clash between Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou, and the glove-to-glove showdown between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol. 

Riyadh Season has also taken its commitment to boxing beyond the borders of Saudi Arabia, and has hosted a number of world-class sporting events in various locations around the globe, such as the bout in between Terence 'Bud' Crawford and Israil Madrimov who battled it out in Los Angeles for the dual title of WBA & WBO World Champion for Super-Welterweight. In July of 2024, Daniel 'Dynamite Triple D' Dubois and Olympian Anthony Joshua went glove-to-glove in the ring where the IBF World Heavyweight belt was up for grabs in London
