11th edition of Saudi Film Festival will explore "Cinema of Identity"

Today, the Saudi Film Festival, a cornerstone of the Kingdom's burgeoning film scene, announced the launch of its 11th edition.

Taking place from April 17 to 23 at the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) in Dhahran, this year's festival will delve into the captivating theme of "Cinema of Identity," exploring how film reflects and shapes individual, national, and cultural identities. This year's official slogan is, "Stories Seen and Told."

Organised by the Cinema Association, and in partnership with Ithra and supported by the Film Commission, the film festival will feature a diverse program of Arab and international films, alongside a special focus on Japanese cinema. This year, attendees can expect thought-provoking screenings, insightful workshops, and engaging discussions that delve into the multifaceted aspects of identity in the modern world.

"We are proud to continue our collaboration with the Cinema Association in organising this important festival," said Mansour Al-Badran, Deputy Director of the Festival. "The Saudi Film Festival provides a crucial platform for showcasing the remarkable growth of Saudi cinema, and Ithra is committed to supporting this vibrant industry by providing a conducive environment for filmmakers to thrive."

Hani Al-Mulla, Executive Director of the Cinema Association, echoed these sentiments, stating, "This festival serves as a vital catalyst for the growth of Saudi cinema. Through programs that foster creativity and facilitate cultural exchange, we aim to empower filmmakers and elevate the profile of Saudi cinema on the global stage."

Beyond the film screenings, the festival will offer a range of engaging activities, including workshops for children and families, interactive experiences, and a dedicated membership program for cinema enthusiasts. This program will provide members with exclusive access to screenings, workshops, and networking opportunities with industry professionals.

A Spotlight on Japanese Cinema

This year's edition of the much-anticipated Saudi Film Festival will also feature a special program dedicated to Japanese cinema, showcasing the rich and diverse cinematic traditions of Japan. This program will include screenings of acclaimed Japanese films, along with workshops and interactive experiences designed to foster knowledge exchange and cultural understanding between Saudi and Japanese filmmakers.
