As one of Riyadh's newest interactive and immersive learning and leisure destinations, the Al-Tahlia Oasis 'FoodSphere' offers a unique blend of education and entertainment, now often referred to as edu-tainment.
Opened on February 26, FoodSphere has been developed as part of the Riyadh Oasis Activation Program. This is the first of eight locations, which will be designed as a series of urban oases, the Riyadh Oases plan aims to create engaging and open spaces within the capital city, promoting community partnership and knowledge sharing.
Unveiled and inaugurated by His Highness Prince Faisal bin Abdulaziz bin Ayyaf, Mayor of Riyadh, this opening marks a pivotal milestone, as through this visionary partnership, Riyadh Municipality and Riyadh Holding are reshaping the urban landscape with this innovative project.
The 'FoodSphere' destination is located on Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz Street (Al-Tahlia). It celebrates the cultural heritage of food in Saudi Arabia and offers visitors an exceptional opportunity to explore new horizons in the world of food and discover the future of food innovation. Al-Tahlia Oasis aims to revive Saudi food heritage through an interactive space that allows visitors to explore the interconnected relationships between food, heritage, and sustainability in a way that blends traditional food practices with the latest food innovation concepts.
Three Zones of Riyadh Oasis
The newly opened Al-Tahlia destination spans an area of over 11,000 square meters, and includes three indoor zones:
- The Beehive, where visitors can explore the world of bees and honey, learn about their role in pollination, and understand the significance of honey in our culture. Visitors are greeted by a holographic beekeeper who provides insights into the fascinating world of pollination and sustainable beekeeping practices.
- The Date and Coffee Oasis, a zone for the senses, here visitors are greeted by the familiar and delicious aromas of sweet, sticky dates and rich Arabic coffee. Visitors are invited to learn about, celebrate and indulge in traditional Saudi hospitality by experiencing the blend of culture and flavour, tasting dates and traditional Arabic or white coffee.
- The Bio Zone, features advanced technologies like vertical farming and nano-clay applications. This forward-thinking zone demonstrates the future of sustainable food production, and here visitors can observe the beauty of butterflies and step into a living environment showcasing innovations in food security.
Additionally, as the Riyadh Oases is a winter experience, and so features a selection of vibrant outdoor spaces with walking trails, green landscapes, complemented by a number of cafés, and restaurants that reflect Saudi Arabia’s cultural identity and enhance the experience of residents and visitors.

What is the Riyadh Oasis / Riyadh Oases Project?
The Riyadh Oasis Project holds significant importance for the city of Riyadh, marking a step toward enhancing the quality of life in the capital; it is hoped that these oases and experiences can create a rich environment for visitors that blends both education and entertainment, whilst also positioning Riyadh as a hub for exploration and innovation for all segments of society.
The project will include eight different oases throughout the capital city. Slated to open in the coming years, and in tandem with the pillars of Vision 2030, it is expected that these oases will be distributed across various neighbourhoods in Riyadh, serving as vibrant social, cultural, and educational hubs for different communities.
