197 nations invited to shape Expo 2030 Riyadh

Saudi Arabia has extended invitations to almost 200 countries, and 22 international organisations from around the world to showcase at Expo 2030 in Riyadh

The torch officially passed to Riyadh when Expo 2025 came to a close in the city of Osaka in Japan earlier this month. This will be the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) 173rd General Assembly, and the first time Saudi Arabia has been chosen to host the event.

With the recent conclusion of Expo 2025 in Osaka in early October, the Expo torch has officially been passed to the Kingdom's capital city. With the focus immediately shifting to Riyadh as the next host city, Saudi Arabia has hosted an extensive outreach campaign that has sent formal invitations to 197 nations and 22 international organisations — a critical step that demonstrates the Kingdom’s commitment to an inclusive event centred on the theme, 'The Era of Change: Together for a Foresighted Tomorrow".

The sheer scale of the invitations underscores Saudi Arabia’s vision to use the World Expo as a platform for global dialogue and shared progress, fully aligning with the ambitious goals of Vision 2030. The hosts are dedicated to ensuring that every invited country can participate effectively, offering financial and logistical support as part of an unprecedented commitment to facilitation.

Expo 2030 is scheduled to run for six months, from October 2030 to March 2031. It is hoped that this sprawling showcase will attract a massive global audience to the Kingdom. The biennale will pivot around three vital sub-themes: Prosperity for All, Climate Action, and A Different Tomorrow, reflecting pressing global challenges and priorities.

Official projections target over 42 million people will visit the dedicated exhibition area, which will be located south of Riyadh, close to King Khalid International Airport. The site itself will be laid out in a striking ring-shaped design inspired by an oasis, symbolising the connection between the past, present, and future of Riyadh.

To guarantee the success and inclusivity of the event, Saudi Arabia has allocated an extraordinary fund of $7.8 billion. This substantial investment is intended not only for the comprehensive infrastructure development but also crucially for subsidising the costs of developing individual country pavilions for nations that require assistance.

By inviting nearly every recognised nation in the world and offering this level of financial support, Riyadh seeks to create the most representative and accessible World Expo in history, fostering international cooperation on the most urgent issues facing humanity: the Kingdom believe that this wide participation will be vital to achieving the ambitious goals outlined in the three sub-themes.
