Jeddah is undergoing a major urban transformation with the launch of the Bahja Project.
Joining the Green Riyadh initiative which - stands as one of the world's most ambitious urban reforestation endeavours, the Bahja Project is an initiative designed to revitalise open and underused spaces in the Red Sea city by converting them into vibrant urban parks.
Spearheaded by the Jeddah Municipality, this transformative project aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and the Quality of Life Program; both aiming to enhance community well-being, promote active lifestyles, and strengthen the connection between people and their surroundings.
The Bahja Project is set to introduce five waterfront developments and over 442 parks across Jeddah, creating green spaces that serve as hubs for families, social gatherings, and cultural events. These parks will feature walking paths, essential services, and safety measures, encouraging physical activity and social interaction while fostering a healthier urban environment.
Jeddah Municipality spokesperson Mohammed Al-Buqami emphasised that the initiative is guided by strategic urban planning goals, including the promotion of healthy cities, the integration of local identity into public spaces, and the expansion of recreational opportunities. The project is part of a broader effort to position Saudi cities among the top 100 Most Liveable Cities in the World, ensuring that residents and visitors alike benefit from modern, accessible, and sustainable urban spaces.
