Saudi Arabia has introduced a new banking facility that allows tourists and long-stay visitors to open personal bank accounts during their visit, marking another step toward enhancing the Kingdom’s tourism experience.
As the country continues to position itself as a fast-growing global travel destination — home to luxury Red Sea resorts, large-scale entertainment projects, and major business events — authorities have worked to simplify essential services for international visitors staying for extended periods.
Under the new system, visitors holding a valid Saudi tourist or visitor visa can apply to open a local bank account, enabling them to conduct financial transactions with ease. These include local and international money transfers, contactless payments, and paying for accommodation and services using Saudi riyals.
What are the required documents to get Saudi local bank account?
To begin the process, visitors must first generate a Visitor ID through the Absher platform. Once completed, applicants can visit a Saudi bank branch to submit their request. Required documents typically include:
- A copy of the Saudi Visitor ID
- A valid passport
- Current address in Saudi Arabia
- Home country address
- Contact details (a Saudi mobile number may be required by some banks)
Some Saudi banks also offer the option to submit applications online, subject to internal policies and eligibility requirements.
It is important to note that the bank account remains linked to the visitor’s visa status. Once the visitor exits Saudi Arabia, the account is automatically suspended.
Whether visiting for leisure, entertainment, or business, this initiative offers tourists greater financial flexibility and reflects Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to deliver a smoother, more visitor-friendly experience.
