Luxury hospitality group Aman has officially revealed the name and masterplan for its highly anticipated debut in the Maldives.
Scheduled to open in 2028, the destination will be known as Amanolu, a moniker merging the Sanskrit word for peace with olu, the regional term for the water lily. Set within the secluded lagoons of the Vaavu Atoll, the project brings together a 52-key resort alongside a limited collection of 16 ultra-exclusive branded residences, marking a new chapter for private island hospitality in the Indian Ocean.
Conceived by longtime Aman collaborator Kerry Hill Architects (KHA), the design language draws directly from the natural topography of the archipelago. Framed around white coralline beaches and crystalline waters, the structures prioritise simplicity and restraint to blur the boundaries between indoor pavilions and the open sky. The layout spreads across a scattering of private islets, ensuring the low-density footprints and emotional calm that define the global Aman portfolio.
Dedicated Islands for Wellness and Recreation
Beyond the resort’s core accommodation pavilions, Amanolu introduces a multi-island layout designed to segregate leisure and restoration.
A dedicated wellness island will host an expansive Aman Spa alongside signature Spa Houses, surrounded entirely by water to create a quiet sanctuary for immersive therapies and hydrothermal treatments. Nearby, a separate activity island will serve as the hub for ocean exploration, featuring comprehensive diving facilities, water-sports programmes, and marine conservation initiatives tailored to the rich underwater ecosystems of the Vaavu Atoll. Global culinary concepts, family gathering hubs, and private beachfront dining complete the offering ahead of the resort's 2028 debut.
Aman's Private Island Residences
Alongside the main resort accommodations, Amanolu introduces a truly rare residential offering for collectors seeking their own permanent Maldivian sanctuary. Each of the 16 five-bedroom Aman Residences occupies a dedicated private island within the development, setting a new benchmark for spatial luxury and seclusion.
Orientations differ across the archipelago, with select estates positioned along single shorelines to capture distinct sunrise or sunset views, while others extend coast to coast, boasting private beaches on both sides and uninterrupted light throughout the day. Every residence features open-plan indoor and outdoor pavilions that flow effortlessly onto private sands. Anchored by a 25-metre swimming pool and individual boat berth for seamless sea arrival, each home also incorporates dedicated on-site staff quarters to guarantee the discreet, intuitive service for which the brand is globally celebrated.
