Abu Dhabians are utterly spoiled for choice with beach clubs. There’s everything here from the late-night spots on Yas and Al Maya Islands to the chic see-and-be-seen retreats of Saadiyat Island. Meanwhile, more sporty and family-friendly clubs abound along the Corniche, often attached to some of the city’s best loved hotels. Whether you’re headed there to party, sunbathe or play sports, one thing they all have in common is a chance to feel your toes in the warm sand and make the most of the UAE capital’s stunning beaches.

Dress codes for beach clubs can vary. Swimwear is always acceptable around pools and on the beach, and it’s considered good etiquette to cover up when away from the water – especially important if it’s a family-friendly beach club. Typically in Abu Dhabi, dressing respectfully means covering knees and shoulders, and this is always a good idea when travelling about the city. However,  if you’re heading out to one of the late-night venues, you’ll find attitudes are usually a lot more relaxed inside. Be sure to dress up! These are Abu Dhabi’s best beach clubs.

1. Saadiyat Beach Club

One of the best beach clubs in Abu Dhabi, Saadiyat Beach Club is set on a stunning stretch of sand. The vibe here is sleek and sophisticated, with a large infinity pool, private cabanas, and a pristine beach with turquoise water. The decor is all natural wood and stone, giving the whole place a back-to-nature, desert island feel. The seaside bars and restaurants stay lively, especially at weekends, and there are regular DJs, percussionists and performers keeping energy levels high late into the evening.

Day pass costs vary, but start at around AED 225, which includes credits for food and drinks. The passes also include pool and beach access, plus lounger use, complimentary towels, water and fruit icicles. The onsite restaurants serve everything from sushi to Mediterranean grills, making it easy to spend an entire day here. Weekends fill up quickly, so book your pass online in advance.

2. Nation Riviera Beach Club

Part of The St. Regis Abu Dhabi, Nation Riviera is a polished, family-friendly beach club set along the Corniche, with lovely Gulf views and an atmosphere you can really unwind in. Unlike some of the more party-hard clubs, this is the place to pick if you want to spend the day focusing on wellness, in the gym, relaxing by the infinity pool or enjoying low-key snacks and drinks with friends. Guests have access to a private stretch of beach, swimming pools, a fitness center, and a shady poolside family lounge.

Day passes start from AED 345 on weekdays and AED 415 at weekends, which includes credits that can be spent at the seafront Cabana Beach Bar & Grill. The beach is open daily from 8am until sunset, and there are discounted sundowners by the pool on weekday evenings. Sunset views from here are superb, making this an elegant and blissfully serene place to while away your downtime.

Café del Mar Abu Dhabi

3. Café del Mar Abu Dhabi

It’s all action, all the time on Yas Island, especially since Café del Mar was imported here from Ibiza. Four outdoor bars, a giant infinity pool and plenty of sunloungers on the beach await at this Yas Bay venue which pulls in a glamorous, international crowd. Expect everything from beautifully mixed drinks at sunset, to raucous themed weekend brunches, night swimming sessions and no end of poolside parties. The venue is a big nightlife destination too, with DJs, dancing and performances often on until late. If you’re feeling flashy, you can hire exclusive VIP villas, Jacuzzis or cabanas for the night – make sure to arrive by golden hour to make the most of the panoramic views from your swanky spot.

There are several places to snack, dine or drink – tapas, salads, sushi and Mediterranean sharing dishes can be found on the bar menu, while more substantial meals, including steak and seafood are served in the restaurant. Drinks are showstopping and you can order them big enough to share, with horns or sparklers. Day passes start from AED 100 (ladies go free Monday to Thursday) and prices go up substantially at the weekend.

4. Al Maya Island Beach Club

A short 10-minute boat ride from the Corniche, Al Maya Island offers a tropical-style escape from the city. There’s a resort next door, but it’s the beach club that’s best known for its lively weekend parties, with DJs, pool bars and a festive crowd. Boasting wide stretches of sand and shaded cabanas, Al Maya is a great option for big groups, especially if you have something to celebrate.

Day passes start at AED 200, which includes the boat transfer, access to the beach and all facilities, as well as AED 150 food and drink credits. It’s also possible to book private cabanas and VIP packages if you want a more exclusive experience. While weekdays are quieter and family-friendly, weekends transform the island into one of the city’s biggest beach parties. Sunrise yoga and wellness packages are available on Sundays.

5. Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental

Day passes to the hallowed beach club at Emirates Palace were traditionally very difficult to come by, but it’s now possible to book access to this iconic destination online.  Starting at AED 400 on weekdays, a day pass gives you access to the pristine private beach, where you can lounge, play watersports or ride camels to your heart’s content. Most guests book for the glorious pools though, one of which is family-friendly, with a lazy river-style loop and mini waterfalls. The other, more grown-up pool zone has a pool bar and hot tubs.

Both are surrounded by shady gardens and lush palm trees. A weekday pass also includes credits to spend at the poolside Mexican or Greek restaurants as well as discounts on some sports activities. If you love beach clubs with a very exclusive, last-word-in-luxury vibe, Emirates Palace should definitely be top of your list – wear your best resort wear to fit in!
