Saudi Arabia's most anticipated resort has finally opened on Shura Island

Red Sea Global has officially marked a major milestone in the Kingdom's tourism evolution with the landmark opening of Grand Hyatt The Red Sea on Shura Island.

Opening its doors on October 31, according to the website, the resort is slated to welcome its first overnight guests from December 1, 2026. The sprawling luxury property anchors the heart of the dolphin-shaped Shura Island, bringing an unmatched blend of striking architecture, immersive hospitality, expansive hosting facilities and high-end leisure to Saudi Arabia’s pristine western coastline.

The Beauty of Design & Purpose

Grand Hyatt The Red Sea Resort Shura Island 2

One of the most striking and visually impactful resorts of the Red Sea, the Grand Hyatt the Red Sea has been designed to mirror the organic beauty of surrounding coral reefs, and since the release of renders by architectural designers Foster + Partners, has been referred to as 'The Coral Bloom'. Every detail of the resort has been conceptualised to harmonise with its natural environment, aligning with Red Sea Global’s rigorous sustainability framework.

The guest journey begins with a smooth arrival at the Red Sea International Airport, followed by a well organised and seamless crossing the Kingdom's longest overwater bridge to step directly into a secluded sanctuary of Shura Island. The newly opened Grand Hyatt resort spans an impressive footprint, offering 430 thoughtfully curated guest rooms, suites, and private villas; accommodations range from expansive coastal rooms with panoramic balconies to private pool villas that open directly onto pristine white-sand beaches.

Dedicated to wellness and recreation, the property houses multiple indoor and outdoor pools, a fully equipped fitness centre; with both world-class golf facilities and an impressive super yacht marina nearby. The resort's serene Ethereal Spa featuring 10 individual treatment rooms. Younger guests benefit from their own tailored environments, with curated programming at Camp Hyatt and exclusive spaces built for teens.

Perhaps one of the most impressive elements of the new resort is that it is home to Shura Island's largest ballroom and events space. Spanning over 2,400 square meters of tailored function space, the resort offers an exceptional setting for high-profile gatherings. The impressive footprint features a 1,390-square-metre grand ballroom, a 683-square-metre junior ballroom, specialised conference suites, and expansive outdoor venues - effortlessly accommodating everything from international summits and exhibitions to gala dinners and bespoke weddings.

The Background

Five years in the making, the Red Sea Development Company (now Red Sea Global) and Hyatt Hotels Corporation officially unveiled the hotel management agreement on October 27, 2021, during the Future Investment Initiative (FII) in Riyadh as part of the initial wave of international hotel brands signed for Phase One of The Red Sea Project. Now, the Shura Island destination on the Kingdom's Red Sea coastline offers both international and local visitors a growing collection of 12 luxury resorts, all pivoting on creating and establishing a luxury destination for regenerative tourism.

In a statement released to the media, John Pagano, CEO of Red Sea Global noted the importance of this opening for Saudi Arabia's hospitality sector, and for the region; "Beyond introducing a globally recognised premium brand to the destination, the Grand Hyatt The Red Sea strengthens our capacity to host international conferences, corporate gatherings, and major events. As we continue to welcome visitors from around the world, we are developing the infrastructure to accommodate both leisure and business travellers, underscoring Saudi Arabia’s position as an emerging global tourism and events destination."
