This is the decadent dessert that has been taking Saudi's social media by storm - say hello to the Kronchoco from Lazy Cat Cafe

Originating as a pop-up destination in Kuwait in 2019, the Lazy Cat Cafe under the guidance of chef Ahmed Al-Zamil has expanded to multiple locations in the Middle East, including various location across Saudi and Dubai. Earning a reputation for eye-catching matcha drinks and mouth-watering desserts, the Lazy Cat Cafe is fast becoming a favourite amongst cafe lovers. 

Found in Laysen Valley, just outside of Riyadh's city centre, and in both Khobar and Jeddah, Lazy Cat Cafe is the birthplace of the viral crispy chocolate cake, aptly named the 'Kronchoco'. And this Ramadan Season, the cafe became a must-visit destination for dessert enthusiasts wanting to get a bite of the chef's original take on this trending and indulgent dessert.

Kronchoco Cake Recipe

And, good news for those of you dreaming of a bite of this delicious dessert - we have the original recipe!

The 'Kronchoco' cake features a soft chocolate cake layer, which is then topped with a rich chocolate cream and finished with a final layer of crunchy "coco pops" cereal for extra texture and flavour. If you love desserts or want a new recipe to impress, the "Kronchoco" is the cake everyone's talking about and worth trying!

Ingredients:

For the cake:

  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt

For the cream:

  • 1 cup whipped cream
  • 200 grams dark or milk chocolate (according to taste)

For the crispy layer:

  • 1 cup "coco pops" cereal
  • 1/2 cup melted chocolate
  • 1 tsp butter (optional)

Method:

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  • In a bowl, mix eggs with sugar and vanilla until the mixture becomes fluffy.
  • Add vegetable oil and milk, and mix well.
  • Add flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt, and mix until the batter is smooth.
  • Pour the batter into a buttered baking pan and bake for 30-35 minutes or until done.

Assembly:

  • Once the cake has cooled, pour the crispy cereal layer evenly over it.
  • Add the crispy layer on top of the cream and gently press to secure.
  • Refrigerate the cake for at least one hour to set.
  • Enjoy your homemade "Kronchoco" cake!
