The seaside city has long been a weekend favourite, and it's my home city. Here coastal charm blends effortlessly with a laid-back community spirit, and now, it’s expanding on that appeal with a new waterfront development aimed at inspiring movement and inviting people to spend more time in the open air.
According to the President of the Municipality of Khobar, Engineer Mishaal Al-Wahbi, this project is a part of a long-term vision to transform public spaces into community magnets and places where people can gather and connect. The announcement also revealed that the city's waterfront is getting an upgrade, turning over 4,100 square meters of seaside space into a new sports and recreation hub, designed for everyone from skaters and basketball players to people who just want to walk by the sea while sipping coffee.
It is hoped this redevelopment plan will give everyone, especially younger people of Khobar, more options to be outside, active, and safe. Whether you want to train, try something new, or simply enjoy the atmosphere, this new area opens various possibilities.
This is part of a broader shift across the Eastern Province, one that puts people at the centre of urban design. Blending thoughtful design with wide open air, this new spot promises to become part of Khobar’s daily rhythm.
The fitness area will be equipped with instructions to help people use the machines properly, and everything is being built with safety and accessibility in mind. The materials that are used are sustainable and environmentally friendly, and the setup is meant to blend in with the natural look of the seafront.
The skating zone is expected to be a standout, not just because of its size, but because it’s meant to feel smooth and inviting, whether you’re a beginner or a professional.
At its core, this project is about making Khobar feel more alive, aligning with Saudi Arabia’s broader Vision 2030's plan to improve quality of life, and it checks a lot of boxes: health, environment, youth engagement, and tourism.
What is planned for Khobar?
Four sports courts will cover an area of 2400 square meters, this will include areas for basketball, volleyball, tennis in addition to a one-on-one basketball court.
The soon-to-be redevelopment and will also include dedicated skating area. Hoping to give locals a new designed with international specs; think curves, ramps, and space to roll

• Trees, seating areas, and eco-friendly materials are being used throughout to keep things clean and cool
