Yesterday, The Museums Commission inaugurated The Writings of Today Are a Promise for Tomorrow exhibition at the Saudi Arabia Museum of Contemporary Art at Jax District, introducing contemporary artists of Chinese origin to Saudi Arabia for the first time.
The exhibition, which brings together over 30 artists from various generations and cultural origins, features a collection of over 50 artworks that provide diverse viewpoints on the significant upheaval of our contemporary society.
Curated by Martina Koppel Yang, the exhibition explores two important parts of Arab and Chinese cultures that share similarities: calligraphy and the garden. The exhibition emphasizes calligraphy's deep cultural and socioeconomic significance in both Arabic and Chinese cultures. In all civilisations, the written word and script are cherished, whereas the garden represents nature which depicts creation in all cultures, providing appreciation of beauty and spirituality.
Running until January 18, 2025, Visitors will be able to witness works from notable collections of contemporary Chinese art, the Donnersberg Collection and the Dslcollection from Paris, as well as direct contributions from artists and works created in Saudi Arabia for the exhibition.
Hosting this exhibition by the Saudi Museum of Contemporary Art in JAX reflects the museum’s role in promoting cultural exchange and dialogue, and enriching the artistic and cultural scene in the Kingdom.
