Eid on the Square

Trafalgar Square will once again be the venue of choice for people wanting to celebrate Eid al-Adha in the most memorable way.

The 20th edition of Eid on the Square will take place on June 8 this year and promises to be full of merriment for people of all ages. The free festival, an initiative by the mayor of London, is a great way to come together with others from different walks of life who want to mark one of the most significant Islamic holidays with some singing, dancing, great street food, and activities.

The main stage, the heart of the festival that celebrates “unity, creativity, and hope,” will be situated below Nelson's Column. And this is where festival-goers will be able to watch and bop along to traditional and modern performances from the international Muslim community, with journalist and creator Deana Soni and the BBC News entertainment journalist Haroon Rashid hosting.

In addition, Eid on the Square, a collaboration with the Eid Community Advisory Group, will see visitors enjoying some comedy, percussion, and creative writing in an interactive tent, thanks to Rumi’s Cave – Spearhead Creatives, an alternative community hub, arts, and events venue inspired by Rumi’s wisdoms. For some meaningful family moments, attendees can head to the WAW Creative Arts Family Zone, where it’s time to get their heads together during the various creative workshops that will be held there. And the popular event is also a great place to get those creative juices flowing, whether it’s the at the immersive WAW Community Interactive Arts Tent or making some beautiful lanterns with ALIF New Beginnings, a company known for lauding and promoting Islamic arts and culture via all kinds of art disciplines, giving a helping hand.

Eid-themed walkabouts are also on the agenda. Halal Tourism Britain, an award-winning company making waves with their Halal tours around the country, makes a comeback with their Muslim Museum of Britain experience and guided tours that pinpoint interesting historical Muslim titbits to know around the square.  Plus, of course, foodies won’t feel left out. There’s a lot of options to explore, with cuisine from all around the world available around the market stalls.

“It promises to be an unforgettable day with performances, global flavours and activities for all the family. Everyone is invited to join this celebration of Eid al-Adha,” London’s mayor, Sadiq Khan, posted on X.
