Saudi Arabia is set to strike a new chord with the launch of the first-ever Tar Festival, taking place from 20 to 23 August at the Abu Bakr Salem Theatre in Boulevard City, Riyadh.

Created by the Kingdom’s Music Commission, the festival celebrates the tar, a traditional instrument that has long been a symbol of Saudi heritage and identity. The four-day event will spotlight the country’s musical roots while introducing audiences to a lineup of homegrown talent.

Visitors can look forward to live performances from artists including Dahoum Al-Talasi, Tahani Al-Sultan, Ibrahim Al-Sultan, Rehab Al-Shamrani, Turki Al-Jazea, and Khadija Moath. From folk-inspired melodies to modern fusions of Arabic and Western sounds, the programme highlights the diversity of Saudi music today.

Beyond the stage, the Tar Festival will feature interactive zones inspired by traditional instruments, photography displays, and cultural activities designed to give audiences a deeper connection to the Kingdom’s musical story.

By showcasing Saudi talent and celebrating an instrument so deeply tied to national identity, the Tar Festival is set to become more than just an event—it’s part of Riyadh’s growing reputation as a cultural and artistic hub.
