Dubai definitely doesn’t do boring. With its record-breaking skyscrapers, enormous adventure parks, beautiful beaches and endless cultural experiences, there’s no chance of running out of exciting things to do here.
From dune bashing to paddle boarding and skiing (yes, on actual snow!) to camel riding, many of Dubai’s attractions are fun and high-energy, making it a top destination for families who have kids to match. But there are also plenty of more mellow experiences to be had here, on golden sands, in fragrant flower gardens and amid rolling desert dunes. So whether you’re here for a two-week holiday or just a whirlwind stopover, there are enough options to make sure you don’t waste a minute of your trip. These are just some of Dubai’s top things to do.
1. View Dubai from the top of the Burj Khalifa
No trip to Dubai is complete without a visit to the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. Take the high-speed elevator to one of the tower’s observation decks for sweeping views of the city, desert and sea. The highest deck is Sky, on level 148, and is a dizzying 555m above ground, but there are also impressive views from levels 124 and 125 (tickets here are cheaper). Unsurprisingly, sunset is an especially popular time to visit so book your tickets in advance to nab this time slot. Don’t forget to stop by the interactive exhibits to learn about the building’s incredible engineering.
2. Be dazzled by the Dubai Fountain show
Set at the base of the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Fountain is a dazzling water and light show, and one of the city’s top feel-good experiences. Every evening, the illuminated jets ‘dance’ to music from classical to contemporary Arabic hits. It’s completely free and people from all walks of life come to enjoy the show every evening, so it’s also a great chance to soak up Dubai’s atmosphere. The show runs every 30 minutes each night between 6pm and 11pm, and it’s a good idea to arrive early to grab a spot along the waterfront. Currently closed for redevelopment and cleaning, Dubai Fountain is expected to reopen in October 2025.
3. Shop ‘til you drop at Dubai Mall
The sprawling Dubai Mall is one of the largest shopping centers in the world. It’s home to all the biggest global names as well as Arab brands and designers, so whether you’re after high-end or high-street gear, you’re bound to find it here. There’s much more to Dubai Mall than just shops however – you’ll also find popular family-friendly attractions like the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo, an Olympic-sized ice rink, and a VR Park.
4. Smell the flowers at Dubai Miracle Garden
Open from November to May, Dubai Miracle Garden is an explosion of colour, with more than 150 million flowers arranged in weird and wonderful ways. There are floral villas, a heart tunnel and even a life-size Emirates A380 plane created from the blooms Needless to say it's an amazing place to get holiday snaps. Don’t miss the Dubai Butterfly Garden, which is right next door.
5. Hit the beach in Jumeirah
Dubai is famous for its glorious beaches, and rightly so. For unbeatable sand, sea and skyline views, head to Jumeirah Beach. This stretch of public shoreline offers soft white sand, clean facilities and lifeguards on duty. It’s free to enter and perfect for sunbathing, picnicking or paddleboarding. Plus, the views of the Burj Al Arab in the background are iconic.
6. Get out into the desert for a safari adventure
Looking for a memorable desert adventure? Dubai’s desert safaris take you out of the city and into the rolling sand dunes in just a short drive. There are all sorts of activities available, from camel-riding and dune bashing to sandboarding and barbecue dinners under the stars. Evening and day tours are available, or for a chance to immerse yourself in the desert, choose an overnight camping tour.
7. Explore world cultures at Global Village
If you’re visiting between October and April, don’t miss Global Village, a seasonal cultural park that brings together food, crafts and performances from more than 90 countries. Affordable and family-friendly, Global Village makes for a great winter season activity with kids.
8. Cruise Dubai Creek on a traditional abra
For a very traditional experience, take a ride on a wooden abra (water taxi) across Dubai Creek. A ticket costs just Dhs1, and gives you superb views of the creek, surrounded by bustling souks, historic wind towers and minarets. The ride typically lasts between five and 10 minutes and connects Deira with Bur Dubai.
9. Go skiing in the desert at Ski Dubai
Skiing might not be the first activity that springs to mind in the UAE, but it’s absolutely possible. At Ski Dubai in the Mall of the Emirates, you can ski, snowboard, or even hang out with penguins. This indoor winter wonderland offers real snow, ski slopes and lessons for beginners – an utterly unique experience.
10. Delve into history at the Al Shindagha Museum
For a deeper understanding of Emirati heritage, head to the Al Shindagha Museum in Dubai Creek. This is definitely one of the best museums in Dubai for learning about the city’s transformation from a fishing village to a global hub. Exhibits focus on culture, trade, and daily life, and the beautifully restored buildings add to the experience.
11. Hold on tight at IMG Worlds of Adventure
Thrilling rides, life-sized dinosaurs and immersive experiences make IMG Worlds of Adventure one of the best theme parks in Dubai. There are six zones in total, including Marvel and Cartoon Network, IMG Boulevard, Lost Valley, The Haunted Town, and IMG Kids Zone. It’s a great choice for families looking for fun things to do in the summer in Dubai, as it’s all indoors, making it a perfect escape from the heat.
12. Make a splash at Aquaventure Waterpark
Located at Atlantis, The Palm, Aquaventure Waterpark is one of Dubai’s best-loved waterparks. With adrenaline-pumping slides, a lazy river, and even a shark-filled lagoon, it’s among the city’s top things to do with kids. The chilled water makes it a treat for anyone during Dubai’s hottest days.
13. Dine up high with Dinner in the Sky
For one of those truly lavish, ‘only-in-Dubai’ experiences, try Dinner in the Sky Dubai. Diners are strapped into their seats and lifted 50 meters above the city by crane where they can enjoy a gourmet meal with unbeatable views of the Marina, Palm Jumeirah, and the Arabian Gulf. A top choice for a special occasion.
