Riyadh achieves Guinness World Record for volunteer registration

Just last month the Riyadh Metro was recognised by the Guinness World Records as being the 'World's Longest Fully Driverless Network'. And now, the capital's commitment to community and local pride has secure it a place in the record books as Riyadh Region Municipality has achieved a new Guinness World Record for registering the largest number of volunteers on an accredited volunteering platform within a single week.

Riyadh Municipality Sets New Guinness World Record Volunteering

This significant accomplishment was recorded in Riyadh on December 8, reflecting the city’s profound commitment to community engagement and the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.

The initiative, officially launched as the "Riyadh Volunteers" Day, successfully mobilised 14,642 registered volunteers in just one week. This high level of civic enthusiasm underscores the growing culture of volunteerism in the capital and society’s pivotal role in supporting crucial environmental and developmental programs.

The official record certificate was presented to Abdulwahab bin Fardan, Riyadh Region Municipality Assistant Deputy Mayor of Community Engagement, during a ceremony celebrating the global achievement.

This success is attributed to the consistent backing provided by the Riyadh Region Municipality, led by Riyadh Region Mayor Prince Dr. Faisal bin Ayyaf. The support is part of a broader municipal strategy to promote community participation, expand volunteerism, and enhance the overall quality of life across the city.

The achievement aligns with the national goal under Saudi Vision 2030 to empower and engage the community actively in urban development and municipal work, utilising platforms like the National Volunteering Platform (nvg.gov.sa).

Scope of the "Riyadh Volunteers" Initiative

The "Riyadh Volunteers" initiative has so far witnessed wide participation exceeding 30,000 male and female volunteers in various field activities. By engaging citizens and residents directly in these meaningful actions, the initiative contributes directly to enhancing the urban environment, supporting sustainability efforts, and improving the quality of life for residents, transforming the city with the active participation of its community.

The program is structured across several key tracks designed to create measurable, tangible impact across the capital:

  • Environmental Stewardship: Planting and cleaning activities.
  • Sustainability Efforts: Monitoring and treatment programs, alongside clothes recycling.
  • Social Development: Food preservation and general community support activities.
